Brandon Graham is not here to lend you money

One of the issues that doesn’t get talked about nearly enough in the NFL lockout discussion, is all the players that could be flat broke when they don’t collect a check. We think of all the players making millions of dollars in today’s NFL, but there are many more who don’t make a ton and have mishandled the little they did have (“little” is a relative term of course).

According to Philadelphia Sports Daily, Eagles defensive end Brandon Graham knows all about that. Not because he’s wasted his money, but because his teammates have asked to borrow some from him. He says at least two teammates have hit him up for loans to get them through the lockout.

What’s the most he’s been hit up for?

“100k,” said Graham.

“They try not to make it awkward. They’ll come to you like they’re joking, but they’re serious. They’re trying to feel you out, to see what you’ll say.”

But, Graham wisely isn’t having any of it.

“I’ll be like, ‘What are you going to do with it, other than blow it?’ I don’t want to be beefing with guys on my team because they owe me money,” said Graham.

It’s a smart move by Graham. No good will come out of loaning a teammate some cash. He’s right, if you couldn’t hold onto your own money, what will you do with mine? And everyone at that point will be miserable. The teammate will still be broke, and Graham won’t be getting his money back.

You want to lose your friends? Lend them money or be their roommate. That will usually do it.

More and more stories like this are just killing the chances of players to get more money than they are all ready getting. A very large majority of players just don’t know hot to manage money period. Children in preschool would know how to spend a million dollars better than most NFL players. And then on top they act like their not getting paid enough so they can do what? throw more millions down the drain on gambling, unnecessary expensive cars, mansions across the world, etc.

Vikings offensive tackle B.McKinnie spent 100,000 on 15 bottles of champagne in vegas last week..and thats nothing compared to other players

Now i could care less what these guys do with their money and if their broke off their asses by the time they hit 40 yrs old..but stories like this and McKinnies isnt going to help their cause at all. Nobody wants to hear players and owners crying about money anymore

Yeah I would loan them money unless they really needed it bad to provide for themselves or family. It’s easy to say if someone blew their money what would they do with yours but if someone really needed it and I had an abundance, I’d loan it to them. And I’d have a contract for them to pay me back (especially for large amounts). That way if they don’t pay me, they already know that I’d take them to court so they shouldn’t won’t be surprised when they get a summons if they don’t pay me. The only thing for me to be concerned about is when they pay me back.

It reminds me of the episode of “Everyobody Loves Raymond” when Ray voluntarily loaned money to his brother who was on hard times but his brother went to Vegas instead of paying his bills. Ray got mad because he didn’t do what he thought he should have done. Well my opinion is that if I loaned him money, I can’t control what he does with it. Just pay me back and the rest I couldn’t care less about. And don’t ask for anymore.

If I wasn’t firmly entrenched in the players corners with the looming lockout this would tweek me over to the side of “what are these clowns doing with their money”! But I want everyone tp remember these kids are coming out of college to play pro ball so what the hell is happening at the College level in these institutions. I could go on and on but indeed the responsibility for money management falls on the players.

If Graham doesn’t rehab that knee (once the lockout occurs) on his own,
He may be the one next year asking his teammates for a loan.. Time to work it
and get back healthy to learn under Coach Washburn once CBA is in place

Anyone remember the “Curb Your Enthusiasm” episode when Larry pays a Dentist (cash out of pocket) for hitting his car in a Parking lot, then the Dentist gives decides not to get his car fixed and give the $$$ to his Daughter to get a boob job instead sending Larry off his rocker.. A classic one if you like Larry David

Blade Runner imagine if these college players actually had to pay for school or payback loans like most people are having to do..there goes $100,000 dollars that they cant use on champagne and strippers in one night in Vegas. I don’t like what the owners are doin either but I could never feel sympathy for NFL players. These men are adults that make their own decisions to be football players. Its nobody’s fault but yours when you are blowing through your own money.

I read this on PFT, and I must say that they are right about 1 thing…… All these players that are bad with their money are alright now with all this labor ish, because the checks are still coming in, but if the deal don’t get done soon……. The players are gonna stop getting checks and that will put a lot of pressure on the players union. I don’t see them winning this thing. They will crack quickly, IMO, because of their bad spending habits and that is why I don’t think we have to worry about missing the NFL season. There won’t be a stoppage. The players need this too much.

What Brandon Graham SHOULD do is pay some of that damn money back to the organization ’cause he’s looking like a damn bust.

What he needs to do is shut his mouth because he’s starting to sound like a mamas boy punk. it’s probably bad enough that another man has to ask another man for money, let alone to hear the loaner run his big mouth like he’s some sort of pimp or something. Shut your mouth “peg-leg” because like Birdo say’s; you’re starting to look like a bust.

By the way, why do all of our first rounders always end up hurt in their first year halfway through the season? is it because of their “high motor”, smallish frame and willingness to just be average?

paulman-

If I remember correctly….later in the episode Larry does the same thing when some lady ruins his sweater and gives him money for it.

Others-

I’m not ready to call Graham a bust. He has only been here one year and played injured for part of the season before getting injured more. I thought when he was in there that he wasn’t a glaring weakness. Hopefully he does improve for next season though.

He should keep his mouth shut and not talk about this at all. Stupid move.
