Eagles Taking A Look At Small, Playmaking Cornerback

Aaron Wilson of the National Football Post, reports that the Eagles will get a visit from Southern Illinois cornerback Korey Lindsey. He doesn’t have the size of the other cornerback, but he has proven to be quite a playmaker during his college career.

Lindsey has pulled down 12 interceptions in the last two years, which is the main reason he was a two-time All American.

I’m concerned about his size because he’s listed at 5’10”, 194 pounds. I think the Birds will be reluctant about adding any more cornerbacks who are on the small side, but this kid makes a lot of plays to just totally ignore him. He’s got good speed at 4.47 and 4.58 in the forty-yard dash, but it’s not blazing speed.

How many times have we talked about the gigantic receivers the Birds will be facing? Again, I guess they can’t ignore his ability to make plays, but this young is too small for my taste.

I will give him credit for going after the football when it’s in the air, plus he seems to have quick feet and a good feel for the game, but he hasn’t faced the level of wide receivers in college which he will see

If the Birds were to put this little guy in one-on-one situations with the Giants or Cowboys receivers, they’ll be licking their lips to get a jump ball against this Lindsey.

He’s also a return man, which definitely adds to his value.

I couldn’t see the Birds drafting Lindsey before the fifth round because I don’t think they see him as a possible starter down the road. He would probably be looked upon as a backup and special teams contributor.

Who knows though, Lindsey may wind up being another Asante Samuel who defies all the measurables and becomes a perennial Pro Bowler.
