DeSean Jackson Practices & Tells A Different Story About Signing Of Smith

Maybe DeSean Jackson didn’t get the word or he was just assuming like many of the rest of us did, but Jackson said that Steve Smith was signed as an insurance policy for ill Jeremy Maclin. Everybody else in the Birds front office have said that the signing of Smith has nothing to do with the Maclin sickness.

Surely the urgency of the Birds signing Smith might have increased as they learned of Maclin unavailability, but Smith and his agent have said that the Eagles have been pursuing him throughout the off season.

As for number 10 in midnight green, Jackson said he was thrilled to back on the practice field and working out with his teammates. His blazing seed on the field was very apparent. The diminutive wide out seemed to be a step or two ahead of everybody else in the short and intermediate routes.

Jackson made it a point to talk about the three Pro Bowl cornerbacks, Asante Samuel, Nmandi Asomugha, and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, that he has to face in practice each day. You can believe that the cornerback vs. wide receiver one-on-ones are going to be classics each day with Jackson facing the trio of All-Pros.

He also said he doesn’t have a problem with the roster being stacked with additional offensive weapons such as, Ronnie Brown and Steve Smith. Jackson said his tremendous speed makes a place for him in the offense, so he doesn’t feel threatened by the additional weapons.

Woops D-Jax… He’s a little too honest sometimes, but that’s part of the package you get when you have him, he will tell it like it is and what’s on his mind , but it’s no real surprise that Smith is here for more than just insurance. If D-Jax gets no extension deal, He will not ony test Free-agency next Off-season but he will surely bolt and leave the EAgles in a heartbeat.. If the Eagles see that SMith recovers and is able to be the player he’s been the last couple of Seasons, then they will lock him up long term and let D=JAx Walk.. This of course won’t be decided to about late November or so after they see if SMith has bounced back fro mhis injury.. but i f D-Jax doesn’t get a new deal by September, he and his team will shut off negoitiations for the remainder of the Season and D-Jax will be a goner next off-season

Sources of mine from the St Louis area state that Maclin will definitely not be playing football anytime soon and definitely not in 2011 Season and that an annoucement will be forthcoming on Tuesday/Wed or so about his condition.. I wish him well and our thoughts and prayers go out to him and his family for a full and speedy recovery… .

This changes the whole dynamics of this offense. Smith is a nickle and dime reciever. A 3rd down specialist who does that job very well. He scares no one on the outside just like Avant. In the slot specialists is what they are. Do I dare say this? If Im trying to win it all. Jackson on the one side, Smith and Avant 3 and 4 and see where TO is at and stick him on the other side? With Cooper being my 5th. Can that happen? Rumors are he is about 100% and after watching him in the SB I would trust him on that.

Paulman so I hope Im wrong but Maclins illness maybe life altering. Saying that we will be going from run and gun high flying wrs Maclin and Jackson to next year possibly having Smith Cooper and Avant? LOL. That scares nobody. Vick welcome back to the McNabb era. If anything Maclins illness boosts theneed to get Jackson locked up. Or are the Eagles gonna HOPE Maclin can come back and roll the dice? I doubt that.

TO will never play in Philly again Dag.. C’Mon Man…
They will have D-JAx/Cooper and Avant start out as the 1st 3 WR’s at the beginning of the Season with Turner or Hall as the 4th/5th and then bring Smith on board once he is healthy and up to speed (mid to late October)
The Eagles will probably go to a Double TE Sets more and occasionally split Harbor out wide in some formations who will run some typical WR Slot routes.. and maybe, just maybe, the Eagle Offense will utilize thier running game more and can always use both McCoy/Brown out of the backfield in the passing game too..

If Maclin’s illness prevents him being able to play this season, the Eagles have plenty of firepower to get thru this season and then address the position next Off-Season which of course has a lot to do with if they extend D-JAx or not.. If they don’t then they would have a problem and need to address the WR next off-season, if the extend and keep D-Jax and still have Avant,Cooper and keep Smith then they would be in pretty good shape moving forward..

I think Riley Cooper can be a good #2 opposite Desean with Avant in the slot and Celek getting more work…

I think we’ll be fine there.. I hope Maclin recovers tho…

Quit spreading lies.
Anything said is speculation, no truth to any of it.
So, you should say that is what you think and not something you’re reporting. Especially in this day and age, when the smallest thing can and will be taken out of context.

I’ll tell you what I think, since everyone is doing that around here.
I think Maclin really did have Mono, or an STD(s).
He did lose weight and since then, I think the staff and trainers have been getting him back to athletic form.

Whether it’s HGH or some type of steroid, and remember this is my speculation based off my playing and coaching experience/wisdom and athletic sources, he has been taken care of and working on his body for a couple months now.

By the time he makes it back with the team, he will be getting reps and eased into game shape like every other starter in this league (with practices, and at most, 1 preseason game appearance).
Behind the scenes, they know the situation and cannot reveal it to the public until he returns, or comes out himself.
That is how things are run behind the scenes, even if HGH and/or steroids get tested, we do not know the process and how they pass these guys.
So, not trying to spread a rumor but I really would put money on it, and if you would like to be sheltered from “Any Given Sunday” type of information, I’m sorry there is another side that isn’t clean cut.
Why do you think Vegas has our odds so high and never faltering?
FYI, despite all of Green Bay’s injuries, they never changed the Packers’ odds and still predicted them to win it all.

You may not like it because you love the NFL, or because you don’t wanna go that deep, but it is what it is.
Check out the Steelers’ players, Clay Matthews and his college teammate Brian Cushing (who actually got suspended for 4 games), and funny how Cushing’s teammates Arian Foster (breakout year, now has hamstring issues) and Steve Slaton (lost his role, also has hamstring issues) are now on the injury report.
There are definitely naturally fit players, the percentage I wouldn’t want to guess.
I’m just sayin’ there are things to be aware of below the surface, and there’s always another side to something (whether you see it or not).

Either way, Jeremy seems like a good person first, good player second, and whatever it is (with his biological father being a Doctor), I will pray and hope the best for him. Just remember, he is a professional athlete with the best professional assistance you can get, if it’s not a disease he will most likely be fine and move on.

They need to look into Maclin’s vaccination history…The majority of medical issues are in direct link to the vaccine programs..Dorment time released diseases.

If Maclin’s illness is career threatening….and if D-Jax does indeed walk after this season…..theres a certain receiver in Arizona that will be a free agent after this year — no worries.

Paulman…you are so full of crap… “my sources in St. Louis” You don’t have any sources in St. Louis! I remember a couple of years ago you told us all that Stewart Bradley had a career-ending injury…your sources at Thomas Jefferson hospital…blah blah, the list goes on. Stick to the football talk and spare us your inside “sources”

Why does Howie Roseman wear long sleeve shirts in the heat. Could it be because he has stove pipe arms to go along with his pencil neck. So far he’s done good in bringing in talent but should go to the gym and beach more often.

I want to know SONGSRME2’s sources for his vaccination theory. Far more people are saved by having vaccinations. Look at the death and illness rates from disease in 3rd world vs 1st world countries. All the medical data in the world indicates that you’re wrong.

Big….um, WOW! Thanks for making my saturday night! You just kicked your game up to a new, entlrely unprecedented level! BRAVO. SO first you make a name for yourself harping on Andy Reid’s excessive weight for some reason – which I repeat – is entirely irrelevant to footall.

BUT NOW? NOW you covered the complete other end of the specturm with equivalent vigor and verve! You’re busting on Howie’s scant figure. Ok. Got it. Regardless of what is happening on the football field and/or transaction ticker, no matter how good, better, worse, bad, the team gets/turns out to be, it is RATHER ALL ABOUT THE FIGURE OF THE COACHES/FO. AND YOU KNOW WHAT? THEY CAN’T WIN BECAUSE THEY HAVE TO BE SMACK DAB IN THE CENTER OF FAT AND SKINNY. YOU CANT WIN ON PURE MERRIT, YOU HAVE TO BE PERFECTLY CENTERED WITHIHN THE NORM.

Unbelieveable.

I doubt Macklin misses the entire year I would bet on 4 games at the most. AS FOR DESEAN, the Eagles need to sign him ASAP. He is a top 10 WR and for what he does for the team actually may be a to 5 WR. Sign him with a 5 year contract and we will not have to worry about our WR positions for a while.

WORD ON THE STREET IS THAT HAYNESWORTH MAY BE GETTING RELEASED BY THE PATRIOTS, HE WANTS TO BE AN EAGLE BAD… I DONT KNOW HOW TRUE THE REPORTS ARE THOUGH…

Word is in NEw England which is no surprise is that A HAynewsworth is not in competitive shape to play Football and similar to his time in WAshington doesn’t appear to have the committment to get into tip top shgape and therefore can’t practice, can’t somplete drills and obvisouly can’t get on the field to makle any plays.. He’s become what many of us stated he is , a lazy, unmotivated player who has already cashed in approx $45 Million of that $100 Million Deal he has with the Redskins so he doesn’t need the $$$ and it’s all about pride and self-worth and it appears that Fat Albert has little of these left too… He’s done, been done and you can stick the proverbial pitchfork in him.. Once you let yourself go (at that size) for over 2 years now, you cannot come back and compete at the highest level, you just can’t..

lets not be fooled by this because

a. djax was not even around-he knows nothing about this.
b. djax would not know how long the birds have been looking at smith. The agent says Smith was contacted by the eagles very very early on.
c. djax is speaking like a fan. Much like Pman, he knows nothing… he doesnt even know that he doesnt know.

Chad Ochocinco will be fine and a contribute to the Pats in 2011
remember that the Pats really don’t have many experienced Big WR’s so Ocho will be utilized in the Red-Zone more often than not..
Welker is great between the 20’s, but not very effective in the Red-Zone due to his small size and just overall less field to operate in and the Defenders only have to worry about those 10-20 yards or so to cover (Similar to D-JAx lack of production in the Red-Zone with the Eagles)
