Maclin cleared to play!

Finally, after waiting and waiting with no answers, Eagles fans get some good news. According to Foxsports.com, Jeremy Maclin has been cleared to return to football.

Maclin has been through a five-month ordeal that included rigorous tests and no real answers. He got just got through a scare with lymphoma, and now he wants everyone to know that he’s fine.

“That’s first and foremost, I want everyone to know I’m fine, I’m healthy,” Maclin said. “I was tested for everything and every single test came back negative. I don’t have mono, I don’t have AIDS, leukemia, all the things people were guessing on, there was nothing. I was being tested for lymphoma and thank GOD everything has come back negative.

“I wanted my privacy on this until I had answers. I don’t like to talk unless I have all the answers about what I’m talking about. It was frustrating to hear all the rumors about me. It wasn’t until this morning that I finally got my final answer and thankfully I’m healthy and ready to return to football.”

Maclin talked to Foxsports.com about an hour after his final test came back negative. He surely couldn’t wait to tell everyone that he’s okay.

I can’t imagine the relief this kid must feel. Sure, he’s excited to play football again, but where does that rank next to “I just found out I don’t have cancer”?

So what was the mysterious illness that had him sitting out so long?

“It was all caused by an inflammatory virus, something that just runs its course through your body or you can treat with medicine,” Maclin said. “I didn’t need medicine. It’s just something I had to deal with.”

If you think you need medicine to battle against such sickness, you can avail your medicines online on pharmacies such as the Canadian Pharmacy.

Maclin is obviously floating on cloud 9 right about now.

“I’m blessed by GOD,” he said. “Today was a sigh of relief. They’ll release me to play football but we have to wait a little more until I’m healed from the procedure last week.

“Man, I don’t wish this on anybody. I look back at my whole life, I’ve already gone through so much. I already appreciate where I am and appreciate the game of football. I can’t wait to get back out there and just resume my normal life.”

Nice and welcome back, but don’t unpack those bags so fast my friend,
Now trade him to St Louis for OT Roger Stafford, who the Eagles should have drafted in last year’s Draft, and they will be set for a while at both OT positions

But seriously guys, now that it’s all clear, wasn’t it silly to speculate about mono/diabetes/etc etc etc/blame he media/coaches/docs for taking too long? We found out in the end and they legitimately did not have results yet. Contrary to the level of patience of the average Eagles fan, medical diagnoses, and particularly high-risk/complex ones can take a very long time. And a person’s privacy is a whole different thing. Maclin said it himself that he was hurt/disturbed by all the speculation. That was my point – it was pointless and at best harmful.

Great news for Maclin. This was way more important than football.

However, now that he is back, I anticipate a slow start for him to this season. Remember, this is a guy who lost all this weight and has not been training all summer. His cardio and strength are going to need to be built back up.

regardless, love this news and i agree with getting djax his now. but, after we get vick done. we could use a little luck with injuries at RT…

Its great news about Maclin. Like everyone else I was concerned about his health and how it affected his life more than football. However, it would have been a major blow to our SB dreams to lose him. Glad he is healthy and that he is back. Now we can move on to other worries…..

jbird
jbird
August 18, 2011 10:37 am

I know some people have a different view of where we ended last season than I do, but I find that view to be largely dillusional. Those who wlak through life with green tinted classes like Spadaro want to believe that we were five points from beating the SB champs ergo five points from winning the SB ourselves. That view is absurd. GB played conservatively and could have easily blown us out if they didn’t drop the TD before the half. We were nowhere close to GB as a football team last year. And we were in no way SB contenders before the offseason finally started. What we were was 7-9 team that was thin on talent with multiple holes who happened to go 10-6 because Vick was terrific last year. PERIOD. Other than Vick this team borderline sucked in many ways. The O line and pass defense were atrocious. THAT does not add up to SB contender.
So what of Vick and the league figuring him out. Well…they did. Actually more specifically the Giants did and showed everyone else how to beat us. That happened in Week 11. So why couldn’t we adjust. Um, because we sucked. McGlynn, MJG and Winston Justice are all mediocre linemen. How do you adjust?? Tell them to be better? Keep the TE in to block when he can’t even block that well. That was like sticking your finger in a dyke. We were not at all capable from a personnel and talent standpoint to stop the blitz. And that defense. Ew God they stunk!! No pass rush and no coverage. Mediocre against the run. Horrific in the RZ. If you cannot protect your QB or stop the pass you will not win the SB in a thousand tries. So fo anyone who thought we were close or contenders before free agency, you’re a F-ing idiot!!!

jbird
jbird
August 18, 2011 10:50 am

Now post free agency, where do the Eagles stand? Well they fired the idiot that was their D line coach two years late but they finally fired him. And they got one of the best in the biz with a scheme that is very fitting for our personnel. Then they went out and FINALLY after TWELVE years got us some depth in the pass rush. For the first time in the AR era we have more than one good pass rusher on the line. The fixing of the D line alone made us a good team instead of a mediocre one. Then we went out and got a couple guys that could actually cover. Our pass defense should be top notch this year. I would be stunned if we don’t finish top five in that category and number one is not at all out of the question. The DTs, LBs and safeties are not any better so we are still soft up the middle. Teams will try to run, but that will only be as effective as their defense is at stopping us. They can’t run if they are losing by ten points in the second half. I expect the run D to finish anywhere from 8-16. 16 is where we were last year and I don’t see personnel that really improves that by much especially if Patterson is done and I don’t think Casey will be as stout as Stew in that area based on sheer size. BUT, we could be a lot higher than last year simply for lack of teams trying. Its based on total yards not YPC so if teams don’t attempt it, our rank will be deceptively high because teams are constantly playing catch up against our offense. Bottom line, this will be a top ten D and will win some games for us when the offense struggles. But since D rank most closely correlates with run rank, we will be lower top ten. However, I fully expect to be top four in points because it will be a completely different story in the RZ this year and big plays just won’t happen against this secondary. Like the old days of JJ, we will bend some but we rarely break.

jbird
jbird
August 18, 2011 11:13 am

On offense. Like I said C to RT sucked were mediocre at best. Who kept MJG here for four years?? God I hated that fat stiff. The guy couldn’t play and they just wouldn’t give up on him. And McGlynn was behind him and Ncik Cole on the depth chart so how good could he be? Not that good as it turmed out. I have never been a big Fat Jack fan but either he or Kelce has to be better at C than McGlynn. And I know Danny Boy will be better than fat stiff MJG. How much better is hard to say. RT is still a very worrisome issue because Justice is now an injired mediocre player, Dunlap pretty much sucks and it looks like Harris has brought his injury problems with him from Denver. If his back isn’t right by final cuts he has to go. Tired of carrying hurt players on our roster. Herremans may have to be seriously considered as an option. Evan Mathis is a quality guard in this league when healthy so the line can still be pretty good with him at LG. RT is a reason that this team will continue to struggle against top defenses.
The WRs have some issues right now but we will be deeper and better come playoff time than we were last year. Shady will still be limited to two thirds of the field if the right side can’t block again this year. But he will have another excellent season if he is healthy. The coaching staff has to use him and Celek to exploit the blitz. And they need to make sure they don’t get away from Shady in games when they are struggling and they start becoming an extremely limited offense that keeps futiley trying to throw downfield in hopes of a big play.
So where does this leave us? Well we needed to get better against the blitz. With better talent and better coaching on the O line we should do a little better holding back the onslaught. But its not all about the line. Vick has to do better with recognition and all reports indicate he is doing just that and taking the next step in his evolution. Now the receivers have to do the same. The offense is a little over rated as long as the O line is a work in progress, but they are still capable of blowing out weak to average teams and putting up points against all but the best of defenses. It comes down to coaching. Keep Shady involved. Run just a tiny bit more. Work the middle with Celek, Avant and S Smith, play call better in the RZ, and do not become one dimensional and predictable and they will be fine. This is a top five offense but I wouldn’t get too carried away. The Saints, Packers, Cowboys and Patriots all have better offenses than ours because they have better O lines and/or more talented players.

jbird
jbird
August 18, 2011 11:24 am

Bottom line this team is now a SB contender but we have to go out there and win games. 10-6 will not get us to the SB. We are not like other teams where everything will fall our way. We are not the Pittsburgh Steelers. Quite the opposite. Things come hard for us. We have to get a bye and we have to have home field against New Orleans and Atlanta. And we have to figure out how to beat GB. And bring on the Patriots! Who do you think will get sacked more? Brady or Vick? I would take them any day over Pitt, Balt or NYJ who could all grind this offense down to a hault and run the ball. This is the best chance we may ever get in this decade. I hope for the best while fearing the worst. I just hope I can enjoy the ride (without constantly worrying about injuries) if we do finally win it all.

The Eagles were predictable last year because of a weak O Line…It still amazes me that so many people wanted the Eagles to run the ball more last year knowing how horrible the O Line was. If they can’t pass protect where it requires footwork, chemistry and hand skills, how can one expect the same O Line to open up running lanes consistently. Fact is we couldn’t even set up screen plays last year because the O Line was terrible. But the fact also is the Eagles had a chance to do big things last year and no one counted them out, yes they were underdogs, but in no way could you count them out. This team had more heart than most teams in the NFL last year, which made them very dangerous! Heart and swag can’t not be taught…The offense was top 5 last year with a terrible O Line…Eagles will be top 3 in offense and top 5 in defense in 2011….

Jbird- i agree with alot of what u said.

crappy Olineman, worst Dline coach ever, lack of depth…. all true. But- we did have 2 good DE’s when Burgess was here. They made a HUGE mistake letting him walk. Also- i believe we’ve had more talent at DE but our coaching was very very bad. Somewhere along the line… guys like McDougal, Kerse, Babbin, clemons…. any of these guys should have shown more.

Some valid points JBird,
I am not so sure about the Cowboys O/L and their Offense being better than the Eagles statement though, Cowboys have 2-3 new players on a O/Line that was not very good last year to begin with and they have some WR Depth issues and still have the question ??? that surround Romo as being a true leader… .

jbird – “our DTs, LBs, and Safties are not any better so we are still soft up the middle”. – I disagree, that may be your opinion, but

First, our Dts are different. Bunkley? Gone. Patterson (who knows). Cullen Jenkins!?!?!? There’s other new dts and different DEs too. Ever hear of Jim Washburn? So really the defensive line as a whole is UNKOWN and by all indications so far, improved.

Now, LBs. Um, you know that Casey Mathews will be either the same or worse? He’s taken a grand total of 0 snaps in the NFL regular season. So how do you know it’s worse. And you know that Chaney/Fokou will not continue to develop and/or benefit from Washburn’s line OR what is now behind them in the secondary?

Safties – No development from Coleman, Allen? No help from having Nnamdi and DRC back there too? No benefit from the OL changes? Jarrod Page is the same as Q Mikell? Colt Anderson won’t develop? Zordich/Lynne wont have a different effect?

Koolaid/Spadaro/Cataldi/Hate WHATEVER YOU WANT TO CALL POSITIVE OR NEGATIVE….. you sir have discounted many facts while forming your opinion. Let’s see what happens.

Honestly folks-there is NO WAY the birds arent better this year than last. The D was the worst D we’ve had in YEARSSSSSS. most of us knew that too.. Just go back and read the posts from last year. Everyone and their mom knew….

1) Our RT/RG spots were going to hurt us.
2) They never did anything to plug the CB Brown hole.
3) Our FS and DE rooks were HUGE question marks.
4) The D coaching was bad… very bad.
5) Huge question mark with Kolb in there.
6) Special teams may be a problem.

all of these were things we knew.

NOW??? im not even super worried about Vick going down cause Young has WAY more talent than noodle arm ever did.

Real…I like your enthusiam. And you are absolutely right about the O line. But I don’t know how long you have been watching the Eagles. But back in the ’80s the Giants used to absolutely hammer our QBs for five years. You know what we did? We used Keith Jackson (a great TE) and Keith Byars (a terrific pass cathcing back) to kill them in the vacated middle of the field. They stopped blitzing so much. LT was ineffective against us. And we beat them 9 times in ten tries including a blow out win at the Vet when they were 10-0 and future SB champs. Shady and Celek can be used more effectively to stop teams from blitzing. Celek needs to chip and release and they need to use Schmitt to be Vick’s body guard like we used to do with Anthony Toney in Randall’s day. And split Shady out wide. See how teams try to blitz against that.
