Eagles Offense Explodes In First Half And Hangs On In The Second

The Eagles 2011 season is still alive, thanks to a 20-13 victory over the Washington Redskins. The victory makes the Birds 2-4 and knocks the Skins down to 3-2.

The Eagles offense and defense played very well in the first half while building up 20-0 lead. They dominated the time of possession and the yardage gained. The lead should have been bigger, but a couple of drives stalled in the Red Zone.

Birds quarterback Michael Vick did a great job in the first half of getting the ball out of his hands and to his receivers. His recognition was solid and it was taking away any chance the Redskins had of getting to him with their blitzes.

Vick had a good day but not a great one because the second half wasn’t nearly as impressive as the first. He was in groove early on and completed 10 passes in a row.

Vick’s full day consisted of completing 18 of 31 passes for 237 yards and that included one touchdown and one interception. The first two drives were run with the type of precision that this offense needs. Teams are going to try to take away the deep throws, so Vick and company must prove they can take the short stuff and be successful.

The one interception he had was in the red zone and the pick occurred because Vick hit one of the defensive linemen on the helmet with the pass.

This was LeSean McCoy’s day and rightfully so, he put the Skins away with a first down run at the end of game. McCoy had 27 carries for 124 yards and quite a few of them were outstanding carries. He made tacklers miss in a major way.

McCoy put on a show today with his tremendous jump cuts, stutter steps and all around play making. He created holes where there weren’t any. He got into the end zone once on day.

Vick spread the ball around to all of his receivers. Jeremy Maclin led the way by catching 5 passes for 101 yards. He had an outstanding catch on a long bomb in which he took the ball away from the defensive back.

DeSean Jackson was second in yardage amongst the receivers. He caught three passes for 46 yards and one of the grabs was a great catch across the middle.

Tight end Brent Celek caught a touchdown pass today and he pulled down four passes for 42 yards. He scored his touchdown on a tight end screen which was executed with precision by Celek, Todd Herremans and Vick.

Jason Avant caught 3 passes for 28 yards and on the last one he caught, then immediately got on the ground and protected that ball.

The Skins were keeping their eyes on McCoy in fear of the screens. He caught 2 passes for 13 yards.

We even got an appearance by Steve Smith as he pulled in a seven yard pass.

The big accomplishment by the Eagles offense was getting that first down with the game on the line. They picked up a couple of first down with Shady McCoy doing the damage and that ended the game.

Your exactly right “”Zukny”” ,they beat the lousy Redskins whom doesn’t have any quarterback who could hit the side of a barn 10 yards away with any of his passes and everybody wants to kiss Fatman now and buy him a “”Big Mac””!!!! I guess everybody is going to go out tomorrow and quick order their “”Super Bowl”” tickets now !!!!!!!

I was out all day with some visting friends on a hiking trip and to check out the Fall Foilage here in the Blue Ridge Mountains of NC.. I did not see the game and no matter how ugly, the Eagles needed this win desperately to have a chance to continue to play meanigful games… Couple this with losses bt the Cowboys,Saints, and hopefully th eBears tonight, the NFC has gotten a lot more bunched up.. Now the Bye to rest and heal some players up and get recharged for their next 4 games versus NFC Competitors in the Cowboys,Bears,Cardinals & Giants which are all winnable if the Eagles play mistake-free ball and play defensively with the energy they displayed today..
Congrats to the Eagles and to Coach AR & Staff for winning the game which is all We can ask at this point… Take a few days off, and heal and get ready for the Cowboys who sustained a few injuries themselves today. Eagles win that one and they are right back in the ballgame to compete for NFC East Crown…

it’s time to pay Herreman..he is by far the most versatile lineman on the Eagles….now if the Eagles can give us a center with push things will be alright.

let’s see

Thats the plan going into everygame. Throw for the lead and run to win the game. It doesnt always work out that way for us but thats always the plan… but i liked how the offense played in the first half, they had some huge gains throwing over the middle of the field… the redskins have a funky looking defense, we wont find many teams that are determined to play man defense all game long against us, thats signs of a stubborn defensive cordinator esp being that they leave the entire middle of the field open. This was a statement game for this defense. They rose to the challenge in a big way..

BTW Hatrodomus himself in the beginning of the year said by weeks 6-8 that the eagles would play some good football bc by then theyd be use to each others games being that there are so many new players on this team… i was dead on… and im not suprised at all… This team will get nothing but better from this point on. Id be shocked if they allow another 100 yard RB again this year..

You guys can come on here and say JH relax its just one game or this and that, most likely because you spoke so horribly against them all week long including the past weeks. Picking against them and being so hard on them. Some of it justified but the rest just BS from negadelphia bc thats what you guys do… funny how im looking at the comments and there isnt that many. You guys only come out when things are bad not good. Your fingers legs and toes must be broke from you trying to jump back on the banwagon… Why dont you guys work at being logical and reasonable with your opinions because you guys sound so stupid, thats one of the main reasons why i dont post on here anymore…

We won. It was one game, against a $#!tty team. Don’t get all chunked up yet! Let’s not get carried away. Reid still needs to go. This game is only delaying the inevitable. Even if they miraculously go on an unlikely winning streak, where exactly is this team going? They are not a good team (thus sloppy play,& O points in the second half), Reid & his staff still need replacing, & the entire DF & O-line, still need many holes plugged! Good win though.

Wow it’s amazing what happens when you RUNTHEBALL!!! How the hell do these idiots not understand that running the ball = WINS!!! It’s not fucking rocket science, you just line them up and run. Fuck I hate these dickheads. I wish we would have lost because all this does is vindicate everything we’ve been screaming at the top of our lungs for over 2 fucking years. When we run we win. Simple.

Can somebody explain why scoring 0 points in the 2nd half of a WIN matters ?
I watched a couple teams yesterday score 0 in the 2nd half and WON
Isn’t the object of a contest is to score MORE points than the other guy

Yep,
A win is a win is a win! Gotta hand it to the Defense though they actually showed up this week. Nice Hit by Nnamdi on Cooley! and we actually got somebody else to give us the ball for a change! Plus the Redskins had to settle for field goals for 75% of the game. Epic!
