The Eagles Offense Must Keep Its Focus

The Eagles have a fast break offensive attack. The entire offense is all about speed and they must not forget that on short yardage and on the goalline. They’re not going to overpower teams, but moving around and keeping them guessing will give them an advantage which they can exploit.

Sweeps, screens, draws, roll outs, sprint draws, bootlegs, reverses, and anything that utilizes their speed can be successful. That quick screen to Jeremy Maclin for the first touchdown was a thing of beauty. Jason Peters got to the corner so quickly with Evan Mathis taking care of anybody showing from the inside was run like a clinic.

There are times each year when Andy Reid and Marty Mornhinweg put together a masterpiece of a game plan, which allows the Eagles to dominate and opponent and win going away. That’s what happened on Sunday.

They came in with a three-step drop game plan to give Michael Vick the chance to get the ball out of his hands. Vick carved up the Cowboys like they were a tender filet mignon. This offense is going to be very hard to stop as we go forward if they can effectively employ both a deep-passing game and a short to intermediate game depending on the defense they’re facing.

First of all the fear of DeSean Jackson influenced Dallas defensive coordinator Rob Ryan to play with his two safeties deep and taken out of run support and any role in the short to intermediate passing game. Ryan rightfully admitted that this game plan was foolish because you can’t stop the Eagles offense by playing your safeties that deep.

Reid and Mornhinweg had no trouble getting Brent Celek and Jason Avant matched up against Dallas inside linebackers Keith Brooking and Bradie James. It wasn’t even a contest.

Celek and Avant must continue to be utilized when teams try to line their safeties 20-30 yards deep to defend the speed of Jackson and Jeremy Maclin. Other teams are going to alternate their method of defending the Eagles. There will be deep safeties on one play and man-to-man coverage with the safeties blitzing on sitting on the line of scrimmage on the next.

Michael Vick will have to read what defense they’re facing on each play. He did a good job of reading the Cowboys on Sunday night. He has shown that he can be extremely accurate when he’s given the chance to set his feet and throw the football. He throws a dart-like pass which is a very catchable pass.

Vick doesn’t have to take chances with the football. If nothing is there then he should throw the ball away or get on the ground. The only thing that will stop this offense is turnovers.

The fight this offense will have is focusing on each play and not taking things for granted. They’re very talented and they know it, but they can’t go through the motions and lose their concentration because that will result in turnovers which will negate their talent.

This offense can be as consistent and potent as the Green Bay Packers, but they must concentrate and focus. They should use the Packers offense as a target.

They’ve got to approach each game like their season is on the line. Each play must be approached like it’s the most important play of the game. If they can do that, the sky is the limit for this squad.

G:
Good analysis as usual. I thought the offensive line play was terrific. I was doubting whether they would be able to handle the DT’s of Dallas. I was wrong. They owned them and it was a thing of beauty. Down the middle was the way to go passing against the Cowboys and Big Red and MM did just that. They were finally playing chess and Rob Ryan was playing checkers. I LOVED it and so did my son. We went to the game and had an awesome time together. That’s what it’s all about, G.

I love watching when the “Big Man” Jason Peters gets out in Space on those Draws/Screen plays.. You see him rumbling down the field and the defenders are looking to run out of bounds and get out the way to not be blocked by him…
J Peters is the best LT in the NFL right now in my opinion, He’s so athletic for a big guy and has a nasty attitude which has rubbed on some of the other guys and I know I stated this since the Summer, is that he’s is his best shape physically in his entire career and it shows..

We seen more screens from the Eagles on Sunday than we have all season, I believe…or maybe just because they were more successful.

Its pick your poison…play your safeties shallow or even semi deep, give up the 50 yard bomb….play your safeties back and give up the short to intermediate throws or the 10+ yard run. Now that the Eagles are mixing it up with short passes, screens (RB and TE) defenses are gonna be a little more hesitant with the blitz, I believe. I mean the Eagles will have to beat the blitz every game with a big play run, short pass or screen and to put the defense on its heels. But as the article says if the offense can keep its focus, it doesn’t matter what the defense does.

Honestly, fellas we’ve witnessed good drives by this offense all season thus far, what were witnessing now is everyone doing their part and taking care of the ball..not to mention the O Line seems to clicking. If the O Line can play like they did Sunday from here on out, we will be putting up some big numbers on O.

The fact that the defense is forcing turnovers and to me which is just as important 3 and outs is even more important. We all know the offense is capable of moving the ball. Vick is getting into a groove right now fellas, we will see the bomb when it is there and that is it. Last year Vick started the game hot, this year he’ll finish hot…Just way to many options on the football field for him and he is utilizing every one…Seeing him hookup with Celek the past two weeks reminds me of him and Crumpler..Celek may wind up with 10 plus TDs before the season is over fellas, its scary of how good this offense can be…
