Key This Week For The Eagles Offense: “Secure The Football”

The versatility the Eagles have offensively should make them unstoppable as long as they stay away from turnovers. If teams play coverages to stop the deep throws to DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin, they can now attack with their short and intermediate passing game, as well as their running attack led by LeSean McCoy.

The key to their success will be staying away from turnovers and executing in the red zone. The three reasons their record is 3-4, are turnovers, poor execution in the red zone and pathetic defensive play. Focus and discipline are required by the offense to eliminate two of those problems.

This offense is talented enough to win even when the defense isn’t play well, but they’ve got to be on top of their game to do it.

In the upcoming game they will face a Chicago Bears team that got the best of them last year with their Cover Two defense. In Cover Two, the cornerbacks are rolled up into the face of the wide receivers. The Bears cornerbacks jam the wide receivers when they try to release in order to throw off the timing of the routes and delay their release downfield.

Last year it was successful. They were able to beat up Jackson and Maclin at the line of scrimmage. This delayed their release downfield, which threw off the timing of the routes and gave Julius Peppers and the defensive line time to get to Vick.

The safeties will be lined up deep and prevent Jackson and Maclin from getting behind them. Vick will need to attack them down the middle of the field with their tight end Brent Celek and slot receiver Jason Avant, in much the same way they executed against Dallas. The Bears coverage is the same in many ways to what the Cowboys tried to do this past week, but they play the coverage much better.

Pro Bowl linebackers Brian Urlacher and Lance Briggs are the reasons the Bears play the Cover Two pass coverage much better than the Cowboys. These two guys are big and fast. They cover much better than the Cowboys linebackers, plus they don’t miss very many tackles and they’re very smart. These guys anticipate routes and plays, which allows them to create turnovers.

This Bears team does a great job of tackling the football and creating fumbles. More than any other defense in the league, they strip the football. You know they’re going to look at the tape of the Eagles games and see McCoy, Vick, Maclin and Jackson carrying the ball loosely.

Lovie Smith and his defense know they’re not going to be able to shut down this offense without giving up a lot of yardage and some points, but they’re going to attempt to win the game by tackling the football to create turnovers and keeping the Eagles out of the end zone.

I’m sure Andy Reid and Marty Mornhinweg will be using three words a great deal this week. “SECURE THE FOOTBALL”.

G:

Excellent! I like the TE out pattern as well. No way Uhrlacher gets out there before we get four yards. Slants, Slants, Slants as well, G. Who do they think they are with their press coverage, etc., etc.

Uhrlacher & Briggs are still good NFL LB’s but they have lost a step and are not the Elite players they were 2-3 Years ago.. Eagles 27 – Bears 16
This Bear Safety Play is their real weak spot and can be explotited big time
Starters B Meriweather (picked up from the Pats) is super agressive and can be burnt deep and the other Saferty Conte is like a Sean Considine, not very fast, or physical.. Eagles need to take advantage of these Bear Safeties

The key this week, is which O-line doesn’t get their QB killed. Our O-line seems to be doing better. Thank God for Andy’s epiphany, in trusting McCoy with the ball. That will cover a lot of mistakes & shortcomings that the O-line has/ had, in pass protecting. Chicago’s O-line is horrid & makes our O-line look like the Hogs of the 70’s & 80’s. We should get no less than 7 sacks. So our DF better be on the A+ game against Forte, because their WR’s & O-line blow. That will be the only way we lose this game, if the DF reverts back to 3 weeks ago. 37-20 Birds!

Why in the world would the defense not be playing well with 3 probowl defensive backs and 3 probowl defensive linemen, playing in their prime????

Could it be that “Bozo the Clown” is coaching them?

The Dallas game proves what can be accomplished when you have balanced play calling on offense, and you “take what the defense gives you”.

Some of us don’t have another 25 years to wait for another Superbowl appearance.

Congrads to Andy and the Coaching staff for a fufilling victory. Just got my pitcture of Kool-aid(email) from the philadelphiaeagles.com website. Beat Chicago and the windy city’s version of Emmit Smith and I’ll check to see what flavor it is.
