It’s Official, Eagles Sign Trent Edwards To One Year Deal

Eagles and free agent quarterback Trent Edwards have agreed to terms on a one-year contract.  Edwards who is 28-years old hasn’t played since 2010 when he was a backup in Jacksonville.  Before his time with the Jags, he played with the Buffalo Bills from 2007-10.

Edwards is considered a very good athlete at the quarterback position, but will have to fight for the backup spot behind starter Michael Vick against last year’s third string quarterback Mike Kafka.  This is an obvious sign that the Birds have no desire to resign Vince Young, who struggled as a starter after leading the Eagles to victory against the eventual Super Bowl champion New York Giants.

Edwards has great size.  He stands 6-4 and is listed at 230 pounds.

During his time in Buffalo he played in 37 games,  and 32 of those appearances were starts.   He had one start while a in Jacksonville during the 2010 season.  He was out of football in 2011.

In his career Edwards has completed 60.5% of his passes (561-of-927) for 6,019 yards and 26 touchdowns.

His best year was in 2008 when he had a 65.5% completion rate (245-of-374) for 2,699 yards and 11 touchdowns in 14 starts for Buffalo.  He selected in the third round (92nd overall selection) by the Bills in 2007, and he started nine games during his rookie season.

What a great signing. I believe this will be the signing that puts the Eagles in the Superbowl. We all know how much of an impact a back up quarterback has on his team.

Well I guess the Eagles can forget about Drafting a young QB..
Trent Edwards will get some playing time for Vick will not play all 16 games so the Back-Up QB for the Eagles is actually a pretty important one when you think about it … Vick averages what 2-3 games missed a season plus maybe getting hurt during a game which he can’t finish..

I wonder if Trent Edwards will get more money than DJax earned his entire career from the Eagles just like Vince Young and Steve Smith

Two good moves by the eagles so far, keeping jenkins and signing a legit back up quarterback. Not superbowl bound yet, but not a bad start.

Andrew before TO got hurt he was having one of his best starts as a pro. 9TD 900 plus yards. Randy Moss is better right now than ANY Eagles wide receiver’s they have on their roster. You wanna talk about clutch gene not one WR on your team is clutch Desean had a punt return against the Giants which won the game 2 years ago what has he done since? Vince Young put a few balls right thru his hands in the Patriots game you think Randy Moss would have missed those catches?

BTW, a little off topic. Did anybody else see the recent picture of Laron Landry on PFT.com? My God he is gigantic. He looks like a DE on PED’s. How the heck is he going to cover WR’s & TE’s? Wonder why he has had so many injuries? HMMMM!!! They better test him for Deca-Durabol, Winstrol, Sustanon, HGH, Letrozole. No way anybody gets that big in that short period of time. WOW!!!

I was inspired to create an account just to react to the ridiculousness of some of your comments. Trent Edwards is a solid athlete with a good arm and the Eagles have a great staff when it comes to bringing out the best potential in QBs so I think he is a solid choice for our backup. And EaglesSuck why are you even commenting with that name? You sound absolutely incompetent.

Ozzman, you sure don’t get me. I have far less feelings of any sort about any and all of the front office than most who post on here. And I’ve stated many many times that I don’t listen to any of their press confereces and I recommend that everyone else doesn’t either. You couldn’t be more wrong about me.

Trent Edwards.

Career interception percentages:
3.0, 2.7, 3.8, 5.0…..worse every year. Good times!

Dude lost a spot to Fitzpatrick, then couldn’t beat out the talented QBs in either Jax or the Faders. Good times!

10-20 at Stanford
14-21 at Buffalo
0-1 at Jax

Fantastic!

Exchanging VInce Young for Trent Edwards like switching deck chairs on the Titanic.

Relax they only bought him here to be a backup. Your not going to have pro bowlers at every position. The draft and free agency hasn’t even started and you guys are killing them already. Just chill for now my god

I cant blame then P. Diddy….Its just more of the same worthless talent that gains nothing, but they are smarter than us, so they waste their time and pursue guys like this. AJ Feeley was the better choice for back up……I wouldn’t mind him being our 3rd string, because Kafka’s arm is not strong enough, but not 2nd string!!! I hope their is a better plan in place Howie this isn’t a move done by a competent GM fella. You straight up piss me off!!!! I can do a much better job in talent evaluation!!!! How many draft picks do you plan to squander this year?!?!? Because I cant wait. Freakin Trent Edwards!!

I like the Trent Edwards pick-up. It’ll be good to have a guy that is smart and has played in the league before to be our backup. You know he’s going to have to start at least 3 games this year so lets hope he picks up the offense quick.

Every play in training camp Mike Vick should be saying before play call:

” I will slide, run out of bounds or throw the ball away until the playoffs”

Trent Edwards equals no chance — don’t take those vicious hits Mike Vick

A “solid backup”, a “solid athlete”, “Good pickup”

He’s a retread. Period.

He’s been dumped by 3 teams.

The QBs he couldn’t beat out? Fitzpatrick, Garrard, Campbell, Campbell…..he lost the backup job in Oakland to Kyle Boller!!!!

Great. Our #2 QB couldn’t unseat Kyle Boller for a number 2/3 slot and some of you guys are here trumpeting this news?

If we didn’t have a QB that missed an avg of 3 games a year, then fine I guess, but the reality is we’re going to be seeing Edwards in several games this year (If he indeed becomes the backup). YOu might as well just pencil in 1-2 in 3 replacement games and go from there….’cause that’s the high end of the Edwards predictions. Good times.

Rich Ganon was released by 2 teams and also out of football for an entire season.Trent Edwards is a talented guy,you never know if they can get the best out of him.People are just looking for a reason to criticize the team.Hes just our back up.He also played for crappy teams with bad O-lines and its difficult to show off your talent when youre getting punched in the mouth every other pass.

Hate this move. Think about it this guy will prolly not even beat out Kafka at the 2 spot so he will likely be our 3rd stringer. Why sign him then instead of drafting a young talent who could possibly be the future franchise QB? You know Edwards will not be here for that long. Esp if Vick has another bad year/gets seriously injured or Castillo is a disaster and the Eagles record falters for the 4th year in a row to say 7-9 there is no way Reid and Vick are back. SO i guess Kafka will be the franchise starter then? Need to draft a QB, there is some really good ones out there this year.

ONly good thing about this move is that Edwards prolly won’t say something dumb like Dream Team

What a move….Now, the Eagles are showing they are ahead of the curve. A bum ass offensive lineman that couldn’t stay with a team who need an offensive tackle and a QB no other team is even thinking about. The Golden Standard strikes again.

Edwards isn’t going to be around long.

The only question at QB is whether Reid takes Nick Foles or Kirk Cousins on day 2 of the draft.

Other than being a joke, this move is a non-factor. He hasn’t played in over a year & was a stiff then. He is nothing more than the 3rd string, practice squad QB, that will do nothing more than hold a clip board. God! I can’t wait until Lurie grows the balls, to have the Hazmat clean house. This has Mike McMahon written all over it.

frankdialogue
February 24, 2012 9:27 pm

Well, an improvement over Vince Young…Kafka wasn’t going to get a chance to compete anyyhow.

Lurie’s dream is to move team to LA anyway.

With Vick,Kafka and now Edwards all under Contract plus they still have that young QB Johnson from the Practice Squad, so I would say it’s very doubtful that they will have 5 QB’s for the OTA’s and Camps.. Kafka & Edwards are going to battle it out for the #2 spot and all 3 QB’s will need as many reps as possible

QB Brock Osweiler is my steal for this years draft.. Hes 6’8 240 has a big arm, is accurate, looks uncoordinated and clumsy (Tom Brady) but the guy can throw the ball. I would not be shocked if the birds drafted him somewhere between the 2nd-3rd round. If they dont than another team that does may very well have there franchise QB for the next 10 years..

JH, you have proven, yet again, to be the biggest, clueless, moron, on here. What is wrong with you? Did you eat lead paint chips as a kid? Why the hell would they draft a project QB with their 2-3 picks, with all of their needs on DF & depth positions? Have you even seen him play? I watch college football, all season, & Arizona State might have been on 3 times? How do you know that he is going to be a franchise QB for 10 years? He has only played in 15 games & last year is his first year as a junior. He is big, slow, throws side arm, & his down the field accuracy isn’t good. He is nothing more than a project QB. Stop trying to say things to sound smart, you only make yourself look more idiotic! Let another team take him. We don’t need him, especially that early. Let another team desperate for a QB, over draft him.

LMAO russell wilson is probably the steal .. i was thinking him or osweiler.. until i watched some youtube videos of osweiler..he is horrible.. his mechanics are ok but his decision making doesnt exist .. he throws it right to the other guy ..i though how can you be that bad if you can see over everyone..

With the signing of Edwards, Eangles now have 4 QB’s under Contract to bring to Camp and very unlikley they would bring a 5th QB in.. There is hust not enough time/reps for 5 QB..
Vick, Edwards & Kafake and the kid from Texas A&M that was on Practice Squad will be it as far as QB goes..

I do like Russell WIlson from WIsconsin/NC State by at 5′ 10 3/4″, he’s probably too small and willreminds me like Troy SMith =was out of Ohio State, which is a good COllege QQB, but not an NFL QB..

QB Osweiler is a real prjoject and will need a good 2-3 Years of grooming but he will get Selected in 3rd/4th Rd by somebody ..
QB N Foles and K Cousins are much more polished and advanced at this stage of their careers, both Foles and Cousins were 3 year Starters/Players and have 30-40 Games under their belts while Osweiler has 1 Season and really should have stayed in School to improve his mechanics/decision making skills..
