It’s Time For Doug Collins To Be Held Accountable

Ok, now I’m pissed. I’m at the game against the Raptors with my two brothers and my sister We all have not been together in while and I am thinking to myself sweet, we get to see a nice win over the Raptors. Wrong. We see the Sixers almost go the whole entire fourth without scoring. Really?! To the Raptors?! Then at the end of the game they even had Aaron “stinking” Gray of the Raptors mocking them.
I have always said this year is about growth. They are not ready to win a championship with this current roster. They need to make some moves in the off-season. That discussion is for another time.

I pride myself on having an open mind about this team. Not trying to get too high or low with emotions, but Doug Collins is really starting to irk me. I swear if I see Meeks and Lou on the court together again while I’m at the game, I am going to change the channel and watch “My little Pony” with my daughter. Can we please stop seeing the four corners play when Lou is in? I am tired of him pounding the rock for the whole possession as the other guys stand around.

Listen, I like Collins and I do think he is a good coach but he is flat out lost right now. To me at least, he seems to be caught up in teaching to many lessons. He has gone to an 8-man rotation in the past week or two for a playoff run. I get that coaches like to do this for the playoffs but that is not what got the Sixers to where they where successful.
I know Evan has been starting but Collins is still using him wrong. When Meeks and Turner get the same amount of minutes in the game there is something wrong. Every time Evan does something wrong on the court he is looking over his shoulder to see if Collins is taking him out. Meeks should be a 15-20 min guy. Turner should be a 28-35 min guy, even though Doug does not see it that way. Still bothers me when Doug said that the only way Turner can be involved more is if he rebounds.
Remember when Vuch was a contributor to this team? Well, forget about that. Doug said screw his development, only garbage time for him now. Ditto Lavoy Allen. He has used Thad way to much at the power forward position and you can see the effects from it. Thad has lost a decent amount of weight going against bigger and stronger power forwards every night. He is completely worn down right now.

I will say it again this season about GROWTH. I have always said that and let the chips fall where they may. Collins is hurting this team big-time right now. I get it that coaches will always coach to win. I am not saying to go out and lose games. All I am saying is go out and try to win with Holiday, Turner, Thad, Vuch and maybe even Allen. They are the future of this team.

I am not totally sold that Hawes will be here long term. When Collins was using them and the right way they where winning. For some odd reason Collins has gone away from that. Hopefully, Collins wakes up. I am banking that he does.

Joe Hickman — STFU! Evan Turner is trash and doesn’t deserve to start in the league at this point of his career. He has some good games but lets face it, his defense leaves alot to be desired, he can’t shoot, and he can’t score on a consistent basis. He’s not ready. Stop blaming Collins for Evan Turners regression.

The way you make it in the league is by succeeding with the time you are given. He gets the time, and he doesn’t succeed. Period.

See here’s an excellent examle of how this ‘hold the coach accountable’ mentality is stupid. Doug is the best thing since Larry Brown (though I liked Mo Cheeks too) if not before. What does ‘hold the coach accountable’ mean other than fire him. There’s the crux – who could possibly be better?

If you’re not advocating for firing Doug, than what does ‘hold accountable’ mean? Whine? Complain?

Look, its disgusting that they lost to Toronto. But we.they just have to take the lumps and move on.

Lou Williams takes more 3 pointers than gives assists — Jrue Holliday refuses to get to the foul line he is taking 13 shots a game and only averaging 2 free throw attempts — only Iggy has a good shot, assist, free throw ratio —— these guys are penetrating stopping, pulling back and missing ( no assists, no free throw)

terrible article Hickman! Collins is the reason they are somewhat respectable…. he didnt draft Iggy, Holiday, Turner or the other garbage on the team acquired via free agency. He is doing his best with what he has on the roster.

the Sixers need to use the amnesty on Brand this offseason, trade Iggy and Holiday and bring in some players via free agency.

Doug Collins should have taken the University of Illinois Head Coaching job when it was offered to him last month, ever since he turned it down, it seems like he’s lost his energy level and heart… This is what regret will do to a man…

well agreed that his coaching style is better suited at the college level, the players have tuned him out, I can’t stand watching his press conferences, couldn’t play for such a nervous, suffocating, style, he needs to change it up, chill out…

Jott1972 — your wrong Doug Collins did draft Turner and Vucevic, he did force a trade of Dalembert for Hawes, he did trade Willie Green for Nocioni and Craig Brackins, he did resign Hawes for one more year, and signed Lou Williams and Thad Young to long term contract extensions, he kicked Speights off the team for a 2nd round pick and demanded Sam Young’s addition ———– the only two players on the roster he had nothing to do with are Brand and Iggy but he has turned down every trade proposal for Iggy — this is his team

This article is actually pretty dead on. Those of you saying collins is the only reason they are where they are….take a look at the way the teams played the last 4 years (removing the eddie jordan anomaly). They may have improved but only by a couple game and they are fading fast.

Dougs obsession with lou is hurting the team (dont even get me started on the isos)

Evan’s defense is not bad at all. Occasionally he makes a mistake but all in a he is a tough, long wing, who makes his man work his ass off to get points. He may have a bit of an attitude, but I would too if I was marginalized the way he has been.

Oh and by holding coach accountable it means finally get over the infallible media darling pedestal people put him on and having articles like this be written.

There is a reason doug has only lasted a few years at each stop. He is not a great coach. He is solid but with many flaws. He has the ability to turn a bad team into an average to above average team but his style and absurd favoritism eventually wear on the players.

The team as a whole never attacks the rim and draws fouls (what you do when the offense stagnates) because doug is so scared of them turning the ball over trying to make a play.

They take more long two pointers (the absolute worst shot in basketball) than any good team ever should. It is not a sustainable way to run an offense and does not play to the strengths of the team that is assembled.

Spencer hawes can no way be resigned. He is soft and his play early in the year is in no way indicative of his skill level. Lou, please opt out of your deal and let someone other than the sixers pay you more than you are worth. Doug, stop being stubborn. It does not have to be your way or the highway.

Evan plays great one game and doug “admits” he is a point guard. The next he says he didnt get the ball in his hands because he only had 5 rebounds instead of 15. You guys think it is reasonable to only give your “point guard” the ball because he only had 5 rebounds (more than lou and meeks had in the whole game combined).

His rotations are laughable. They lost the knicks game purely because of doug. Through 3 quarters jrue shut down lin to the tune of 1-11. In though 4th, for no reason, doug switched the combo of lou and meeks onto him and he went off., getting to the lane and line at will and putting away a game they should have won. The majority of that 4th quarter the lineup was lous at 1 meeks at 2 jrue at 3 andre at 4 and brand at 5….and this was while we were being outrebounded the whole time. Please defend that. You can’t.

Doug is not the worst coach ever, but he is far from a great coach and has too many serious flaws to continually be defended the way he is just because he was a member of the media and throws out great stats in his press conference.

Something wrong over there.

Coach say team is tired, but it’s more than that: Since Hawes came back Vuk has disappeared, Jrue has regressed the whole year, SOMETHING amiss with the Turner deal, Young fading, lots of problems.

Not all Collins fault but he get paid to figure it out.

Joe, it’s good to see that reality has finally smacked you around with this team of frauds, but Collins is only playing with the garbage that he has. I’ve been trying to wise you & the rest of the fairy tale believers, on here up, all year. They are what they are. They have ZERO offensive threats, or play-makers. The 4 & 5 positions are non-existent & soft. They have way too many cloned players on this team, & a front office that sat on their @$$e$, & refused to improve the team, when they had their chances. The teams self professed, go to guy, superstar, All-Star, best in the NBA defensive shut down player, & leader, Stinkadala has officially went off of the deep end, in his delusions & beliefs. Your only positive this year, in Collins, has checked out, is making up excuses, & looks like he is ready to have a nervous breakdown & nobody is scared to play this team. How are you even surprised!? Anybody that knows B-ball, could have seen how flawed & fraudulent this team was. Yes it was fun to see them get off to a good start, but I told you, as soon as the rest of the NBA catches up to them, & takes it to them because of their softness, it was going to be hard for them to beat anyone, if they didn’t play perfect DF! Now that they clearly checked it in, along with their coach, THEY ARE DONE! They will be lucky to be a 500 team & even make the playoffs. My last ticket for a game this season, was the other night. That will be the last game I waste my $$$ on this year. If they don’t make any big changes, &/or blow this team up in the off season, I won’t waste a dime on them next season. I’ll still root for & watch them, but I’m tired of making millionaires more money, when I bust my balls for what I have & spend. Up theirs!!!

Eagles 0, you are clueless! Collins has ZERO say on player movement. Stephanski did, & now Thorn is in charge. where do you get your information from, a Walt Disney book!? So you’re telling me a just hired coach in 2010, came in forced a GM & president to do the Dalembert & Green trades!? BTW, we traded Green for Songaila & Brackens & traded Dalembert for Hawes & Nocioni. That’s the trades! You said, “he kicked Speights off of the team & demanded the trade for Sam Young!?” Really? REALLY!?!? If he did, why isn’t he playing the all mighty savior Sam Young, who he demanded them to trade for. Get your information correct. So many of you guys talk out of your @$$e$, with ZERO facts, investigation, or reality to your comments. STFU, research & investigate, before you press Post Comment, because you make yourselves look like stupid, ignorant, @$$clowns!!!

OH YEAH, ALL MOST FORGOT BRAINIAC, Hawes was a RFA, & all the 76ers had to do was make him a qualifying offer. That he signed. As for Lou Williams, he resigned a 5 year contract in 2008! Hard for Collins to do that transaction when he was in the commentating booth, HUH!? So wrong again!

Tired Basketball team, Tired Coaches… Zero chemistry. The Sixers are not athletic enough at the 4 and 5 to compete. Doug blames it on not enough coaching practice time… I guess I have to give him the benefit of the doubt on that one. BUT, he totally is lost in how he uses these players. He is screwing Jrue, Evan and Vuc up… He plays favorites (Meeks, Lou, Iggy) and it’s sickening to watch. Guys are afraid to make a mistake for fear of being pulled… but Lou and meeks can jack up shots and not be reprimanded. This team sucks right now. Hopefully a NJ, Toronto, NJ can get them back… but wait, Toronto just blew them out last week, and NJ beat them the last time too… Sigh… Oh well. Doug thinks he can still coach like it’s the 70s…

76ers will not and don’t deserve to make the Palyoffs
After a 20-9 Start in shortened Season is a total collapse…
Time to blocw-up the roster and start anew…
I would keep Turner, Lou WIlliams, Jrue, Thad Young, Vuc and Sam Young and get rid of the Rest.. How Jodie Meeks even has a Roster Spot in the NBA is beyond me… He adds absolutely nothinhg to the Team..

Jodie Meeks is a great off the bench scorer. He’s not a front line starter.Thats not blowing up the roster keeping that amount of players. They need a tweak and its boils down to theres 6 franshise players in the league. We dont have one…therefore play hard and dont be a disgrace.Mission accomplished…even after losing these games down the stretch.

Chuck, good points…tired of seeing them play scared ball.

Its unfortunate because what i believe has had a bad effect on this team is all or in part there style of play, that run and gun, fast break style has tired this team out. They cannot operate in a half court offense and as we get closer to the playoffs, teams like the celtics, heat, knicks, pacers, bulls, magic all can and are beginning to turn up the intensity. I liked the sixers to finish in the top 5 so they wouldnt have to face the bulls or heat. But if they do not finish in the top 5, i want them to try not to even make the playoffs and just tank it. There is a great group of players coming out in this yrs draft, guys that could help them immediately. Nobody wants to be in that 7th or 8th spot in the east.. though i feel the sixers do match up better with the bulls over the heat, regardless an early exit for my beloved sixers.

paulman

April 9, 2012 9:49 am

The run and gun doesn’t work if you can’t do 2 things well defensively..

#1) Put Pressure on the Ball along the Perimeter and creat Turnover (76ers Defensive Guard Play is poor as a group)
#2) Rebound well, (76ers don’t rebound well as a Team)

How can you run and gun when you can’t stop the ball or stay in front of your man consistently..Look at opposing teams Guards, they are lighting up the 76ers Guards all Season long and I am not just talking about the Superstar Guards like Wade,Chirs Paul, D Rose either, I am talking about average NBA Guards taking the 76ers Backcourt to school almost every game..

Milwaukee is 7-3 in their last 10 games and are 1 game behind the 76ers for that 8th Seed.. There are 10 games left for each Squad.

— Milwaukee Bucks (28-28) has a favorable schdule playing 6 of their final games at home they play Oklahoma,Knicks,Pacers,Nets,Toronto,76ers all at home with Road games versus Pistons,Wizards,Pacers and Celtics)

— 76ers (29-27) have only 2 Home games left with 8 Road games finishing with 5 Straight Road Games to end their Season. They play Nets and Pacers at home and then have Nets,Toronto,Orlando,Cavileirs,Pacers,Nets again, Bucks and Pistons

Predominant fast breaking teams rarely if ever go far in the playoffs, there have been plety throughout the years and none have won a championship. The sixers are a fast athletic team, early on they caught teams by surprise but not this late in the year. Guard play has been poor jrue is thinking way too much and not playing his game. Theyve regressed defensively. Its hard to watch anymore. And changing up the starting lineup this late in the year would be disastrous.. they gotta play this year out as is while the knicks and celtics catch fire.. and yes the bucks have a strong chance of catching the sixers.

Bucks are fovered to pass the Sixers for the 8th and final spot by NFL Observors and the Las Vegas Bookmakers.. Sixers should end up with about the 14th to 16th Selection

My Eary Predictions has the 76ers looking at PF John Henson (6-10 210lbs) from UNC or Quincy Miller (6-9 210lbs) from Baylor…

The sixers could very well package there pick along with Iggy to be in the top 10. Because this draft is the deepest its been in years. Alot of really good prospects. They desperately need a PF and a Center. (It hurts to watch Demarcus Cousins put up 40pts 15 rebs the other night while we struggle at the PF and C positions respectively)..But one of my favorites is underclassman Harrison Barnes from NC, a stud and future allstar in the league. Fab Melo of syracuse is another talent, Arnett Moultrie of Miss st, Austin Rivers of duke who should have stayed another year but will eventually be a good player too.. Jared Sullenger of Ohio st reminds me of Tim Duncan and will be a force in the league, and there are more bc this years draft class is deep and solid at each position.. Would love if the sixers could manage to get in the top 5 or 10 and get one of these guys…

Honestly them missing the playoffs wouldn’t even make me mad…this team, coach, and FO need a reality check that these players are no where near good enough to even get close to winning anything.

I’ll say it again i think the Sixers should pull a Redskins move here. Trade the house to get that #1 overall pick. Even if you’re giving up the next 3 years or more of 1st round picks just do whatever it takes to get Anthony Davis. The Sixers 1st rounders in the next 3-5 years will be mid round picks anyway…not getting a game changer low post player there. You could replenish your picks afterwards by moving Iggy and whoever else…and spend on the open market with the free money after moving Iggy and amnestying Brand.

It’s funny to me, how all of the Ra Ra, Kool aid drinkers, have jumped off of the bandwagon. Wasn’t it about a month, or month in a half ago, when Paulman, a few others & I were telling all of you, what a bunch of frauds & bums, that this team is? All you guys did, was rip us, call us non-fans & bandwagon jumpers. Some of us choose to live in reality, don’t wear rose colored glasses, & actually base our criticism’s on fact & our own 2 eye’s. I tried to tell you John Hart, but you acted like a buffoon, prematurely pumping out your chest, when this team is the same team of non-talented, bunch of stiffs, that it has been!
