Eagles Will Start Team Workouts April 16th Through April 18th

LeSean McCoyFinally the Eagles will hold a series of team practices starting on April 16th through April 18th.  These practices are allowed because the Birds have a new head coach.  All the teams in the NFL will be able to have practices after the draft, but only squads with new coaches will be able to practice before the draft.

These practices are what we like to call voluntary/mandatory practices.  The workouts are listed as voluntary, but only a foolish player who doesn’t want to be on the team this year would dare miss the practices.  For the most part, nobody misses these practices.

After the draft the workouts will increase.  They’ll have what’s called organized team activities throughout the month of May.  The first series in May will be between the 13th and the 15th.  They’ll take five days off and start again on the May 20th through May 22nd.  They will then take six days off and start practices again on May 28th and conclude them on May 31st.

These workouts are in shorts and helmets.  They will consist of mainly of 7-on-7 pass drills, where the quarterback, running backs and receivers run pass routes against the linebackers and defensive backs.

In addition to the 7-on-7 drills, the team will run 9-on-7 drills which are the quarterback, running backs and tight ends, executing their running plays against the defensive front seven.

There will also be 11-on-11 drills, where the offense and defense go head to head with any tackling or intentional collisions.
