Report: Eagles Hire Bill Musgrave To Be Quarterback Coach

BillMusgrave1According to Alex Marvez of FOX Sports, the Eagles have signed Bill Musgrave to take Bill Lazor’s place as the teams quarterback coach.  Musgrave who is 46 years old was with the Minnesota Vikings last three years and he has worked with the Eagles in 1998 as an offensive assistant.

The former Oregon quarterback may have put himself in position to get this job with his play calling during the Vikings win over the Eagles.  Musgrave had a terrific game plan for the Eagles, the Vikings were throwing the ball on first down and keeping the Eagles defense off balance.  Chip Kelly singled out the play of Vikings quarterback Matt Cassell after the game and he talked about how the Vikings were prepared.

Musgrave, who played quarterback in the league for a few years, was given the job of developing young Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder.  Obviously, it didn’t work out.

He has also coached for the Falcons, Redskins, Jaguars, Panthers and Raiders.

oh good lord. I hope Reuben has a security detail

Bobby Abreu – OF – Dodgers
Jim Salisbury of CSNPhilly.com hears from multiple baseball sources that the Phillies are “sniffing around” on Bobby Abreu.
Abreu has impressed during his time in the Venezuelan Winter League and the Phillies are now considering him as a lefty bench bat. Of course, the soon-to-be 40-year-old previously played with Philadelphia from 1997-2006. Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro, Jr. confirmed that the club has scouted him and have received “decent” reports.

Per Lil Bron-Bron Jon’s source, Foles will be fine now, & Lazor departure won’t be strongly missed now.

I was thinking of what it would take for our Eagles to make it to the Superbowl and realized that Foles can not beat the niners or seahawks defense regardless of how good our defense plays. So, I would rather have a serious threat at QB with a better defense opposed to settling for Foles and a better defense.

Foles at QB couldn’t beat the Saints sorry defense and struggles against Dallas, let alone the top defenses in the league line the 49er’s or Hawks..

Foles don’t have the tangibles to make a play when the play breaks down which will get us to the Wildcard game at best.

He’s not Brady,Manning, or Brees, so it wouls be asinine to expect more than what we’ve seen so far.

ONE AND DONE!!!!

I hope Chip see what we see!!!!!!

Let’s get a double threat at the helm while improving the defense to take the NFC!!!!

You know that guy Jakedog has to be right when he says this dude is probably a normal guy just paid to say moronic shit like this over and over again just to get people to make more posts. I bet Koolbreeze is another one. I mean I just don’t think its possible for people to be that fucked up in the head while being mentally capable to use a computer..at least i hope jakedog is right for the sake of society around where these people live.

Jim Kempski (Philly.com) is reporting from senior bowl practice that the Eagles spent time talking with Safety Deone Bucannon after practice. Interestingly enough, Bucannon had 3 interceptions against Kelly’s ducks while Chip was there. Perhaps Chip does a Zack Ertz and select Bucannon in the second round.
They also spoke with Seminoles ILB Christian Jones, whom they also spoke with yesterday. CB Aaron Colvin who they spent a lot of time with yesterday tore his ACL at practice today. Eagles may consider drafting him in later rounds as his stock will drop unfortunately.

LOL- Well let’s see… what have we seen so far from Foles…

Well, in the history of the NFL (that’s 113 years) no quarterback has ever had a higher TD to INT ratio than Nick Foles did this year.

He finished the season with the third highest quarterback rating in the history of the NFL.

His 1.2 interception percentage (7 INTs out of 582 attempts) is the lowest in NFL history for quarterback with 500+ passes.

He threw 7 TD in a game for only the second time in NFL history.

He took over the starting job and lead the team to 8 victories in 10 starts. He lead the Eagles to the playoffs despite them having the leagues 29th ranked defense. The Eagles had the worst ranked defense of any team to make the playoffs.

Sorry Songs, but Chip sees things the same way the rest of the normal thinking people see things. That’s why Foles will come into camp next season as the starter.

Phillymag have great article in resolving Foles year to be a result of bad defenses exposed by good offensive design.

Foles struggled against average to good defenses.

here’s some key points.

Foles faced each of the four worst defenses in the league. Seven of his nine starts came against units that ranked in the bottom 12. Meanwhile, Kaepernick was up against the best defense in the NFL on the road with a Super Bowl berth on the line.

here’s the rankings

Team Defensive rank

Tampa 21
Dallas 26
Oakland 29
Green Bay 24
Washington T-30
Arizona 7
Detroit 15
Minnesota 32
Chicago T-30

Here’s the kicker

Foles played against a 32 ranked defense in Vikings who had subs all in the secondary and he struggled mightily.

He would have sealed the NFC East early against those bums.

The Arizona game was really the lone success against a top defense.

Some might ask why I’m pointing these things out.

Well, the Superbowl is what we as Eagles fans want and I will continue to point to areas that will keep us from achieving that goal.

Foles can not beat playoff contending defenses and it so happen that there’s no SB without going through the playoffs.

Last time I checked Songs you play who’s on your schedule, so why would you try to diminish what Foles did because he played exceptional football against bad defenses?

Yuck Yuck.

Kap played only good Ds, Foles played bad Ds.

49ers wins – and the defensive rankings of their opponents
GB – 24
STL – 15
Hou – T7 (but they were collapsing)
Ariz – T7
Ten – 14
Jax – T 27
Wsh T-30
TB 21
Atl T27

Here’s the kicker. Kap played against the below mediocre Indy D and yet was 48% for 150 yrds and an int scoring only 7 poinhts in that loss. He struggled mightily. He would have sealed home feild advantage against those bums.

The 3 times he faced team in the top 10 in D (Seattle 2x, and NO) he had a record of 3 win 3 losses.

Oh, and in those games he threw under 50% with a pathetic 600 yards, 3 tds and a whopping 8 interceptions.

Some might ask why I’m pointing these things out.

Well, a superbowl for Kap is what Songs wants and I will continue to point out areas that will keep him from achieving that goal

LOL – So it took 113 years for a good offense to expose a bad defense and allow a QB to set the historic records that Foles set this season?

Foles played some weak defenses and he shredded them in historic fashion, including the Vikings. Foles threw 3 TD passes and out-rushed McCoy in the Vikings game. Foles put 30 points on the board while our defense gave-up 48.

Foles and the Eagles offense put more points on the board against the Saints than the Seahawks did in the playoffs. Foles also left the field for the final time with the lead – that all you can ask of a QB…

Sorry Songs… get used to seeing Foles.

I have to say…. I love watching you take it sooooo hard. Every time you post this nonsense I laugh my ass off.

Exactly.

Oakland played 15 other teams. None of their coaches or Qbs could scheme their way to 7 tds.

So what is Songs actually trying to say? That Kelly’s schemes were such genius that they exploited weak defenses.

If so…..GREAT. I’m glad the coach is scheming so successfully.

But….someone has to orchestrate said scheme. I’ve now seen 3 Eagles qbs try to orchestrate this scheme and one has been light years ahead of the other two.

Kelly’s schemes went up against mediocre to terrible Ds 3 of the first 4 weeks of the season….I don’t remember the QB orchestrating said schemes as effeciently or effectively. I don’t seem to remember 7 tds at any point against Wsh, SD, or Denver. I don’t remember 65%. I don’t remember more yards/game. I don’t remember an interception rate under 1%, or a td% over 5%.

Kelly may be scheming well, but it is Foles who is orchestrating those schemes to almost historic production (especially for a Qb so young).

Get used to it.

Here’s another great Tim McManus point.

There is a certain level of amnesia that comes with this sport. We tend to forget the big plays Kaepernick made against Green Bay and Carolina to help put his team back in the NFC Championship game. The last image is of Richard Sherman batting a Kaepernick pass into the hands of a Seattle teammate to punch the Seahawks’ ticket to the Super Bowl. If that pass makes it over the outstretched hand of arguably the best corner in the league, the conversation would be much different and any Foles-Kaepernick debate would seem very much out of place.

Kaepernick (26) and Wilson (25) have both been starters in this league for two seasons, and have 10 playoff games and a pair of Super Bowl berths between them. Foles (25) had an extraordinary 11-game run this season and got his first taste of playoff ball. He may prove to be every bit as valuable as the QBs who battled it out in Seattle Sunday evening, but to elevate him to their status now — particularly as a reaction to what went down on CenturyLink Field this weekend — is a bit premature.

ytim McManus!! Wow. You seem to love those Philly.com articles….but you seem a little selective there Fraudsongs.

You left out the article/interview with Trent Dilfer who said (of Foles):

“I had him in the first round,” ESPN analyst and former NFL quarterback Trent Dilfer said. “That was well-documented. People laughed at me. I made a statement when I was evaluating his tape at Arizona that if he had been in the SEC, he would have been a Heisman Trophy candidate. I thought that much of him as a college player.”

and

“I don’t believe this year was a fluke by any stretch of the imagination,”

and

“So much of that offense is about having a quick mind and making . . . these decisions after the ball is snapped on whether it’s run, whether it’s pass outside [or] pass middle, whether it’s zone read. A lot of these really high-level, post-snap decisions. And Nick does a great job of that.”

and

“Nick has a lot of really good passing DNA. The nuances of the game. He plays very well in clutter. He has incredible anticipation.”

and

“”He actually, for not a great foot athlete, he actually is very effective on the move throwing the football. He was that way in college as well. He does a lot of stuff that you look at from a passing standpoint and you go, ‘Wo, put him in the right system where he’s able to make decisions to buy himself a little space and he’s going to be very effective.’ ”

and

“But I look at Nick having a tremendous career in Philly. Not just a good one. A tremendous one.”

But of course….Fraudsongs only read the McManus article. Skipped over the other ones…..

Putz.

I’m beginning to think that Songs is actually GCobb stirring the pot to get more traffic to his website, haha.

There’s no way any person with a modest football acumen could be as biased and naive as Songs.

If Songs is in fact a real person, I would pay money to know what kind of job he has and learn how he actually went to an interview and had someone say that he was the right man for the job.

Not uncommon for a GM who fails like Piolo did with the Chiefs.. Had nice Drafts every year but could never get his Coaching Staff together nad made the mistake of Hiring Todd Haley to be his HC when Haley was simply mot ready or mature enough to handle which cost both of their JObs
Pioli is a very good Talent Evaluator and Drafted many of the Players on the Chiefsa Squad (Hali,Houston,Poe,Berry,Albert,Bowe,Charles,McClusters, etc,etc so he knows what he’s doing Draft wise)
Going to Atlanta to help rebuild the Falcons is a good move for him as well as the Falcons who have had shaky Drafts and let some good young Talent get away in Free-Agency under current GM M Dimitroff who both Dimitroff and Pioli worked for the Patriots a few Years back and know each other well… Pioli will handle Draft and Free-Agents while Dimitroff probably focus’s on the Finiancial aspect as far as Contracts/Salary Cap Mangament… Good move for both of them…

Just like any other GM,HC or OC/DC who fails and struggles, normally they have to take a step back to re prove themselves around the NFL Circles, then have new Success and then potentially get back to where you want whether a GM, HC or OC/DC
Look at Steve Spagnoloa who rose up the rans a little too fast and got the HC Job at the Rams when he probably wasn’t ready, then back to DC with the Saints where he failed miserbly to now a Position Coach.. He gets some success, he will probably move back up to a DC Position but a HC Position for Spags is a major reach.. Some Coach’s are better as Coordinator’s then HC like Norv Turner, Wade Phillips,Romeo Crennel, Jim Schwartz…
Not everyone is cut out to be a HC in the NFL.. a very difficult position…
