Notes From The Sixers’ 122-103 Loss To Washington

thadThe Philadelphia 76ers lost their 13th straight game on Saturday night, falling to the Wizards 122-103. Their record drops to 15-44.

  • The Sixers were blown away early in this game. The Wizards lit up the scoreboard for 41 points in the first quarter alone, with Trevor Ariza dropping 24 in that quarter alone.
  • Ariza finished the game with 40 points, shooting 8-12 from beyond.
  • Thaddeus Young led the Sixer starters with 17 points, but collected only three rebounds.
  • Michael Carter-Williams scored 15 points to with six rebounds and seven assists.
  • Henry Sims started at center for the second straight game, scoring seven points with four rebounds.
  • Tony Wroten led the team with 19 points off of the bench.
  • Byron Mullens had six points and seven rebounds in just 12 minutes.
  • Arnett Moultrie played only 17 minutes.

Final Thoughts

The Sixers are in a really sorry state right now.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a team just flat out fail to defend three-pointers as poorly as this group does.

Giving up five threes in the first quarter to Trevor Ariza alone is just ridiculous. Guys like Ariza and O.J. Mayo, a couple of stiffs have just lit up the Sixers from beyond the arc in the past week.

As color commentator Malik Rose says, these are guys who should be playing their hearts out to show they belong in the NBA. And the effort just isn’t there right now.

But in the long run, it really doesn’t matter. The future of the Sixers doesn’t depend on the likes of Hollis Thompson or Henry Sims. These guys are just bodies, playing their part in Sam Hinkie’s grand scheme for the future, and while they’re failing to win games they’re succeeding in setting the Sixers up to have a great lottery position.

This plan better work. My fear is that we’ll finish last, get the first pick, and pick the wrong guy, or we’ll finish last and get 4th pick and miss out on the top 3 guys. I’m starting to worry about coach Brown; these kids aren’t playing hard for him.

E$, coach brown has nothing to work with. They’re holding Noel out because they want to tank, they don’t wanna win another game. Its a mess. They have a bright future though.

I fear the same thing you do. It doesn’t pay to have the worst record. In the last 23 years, the team with the worst record got the first overall pick 1 time (magic). Id be shocked if it changed this year.

But if they get the 1st pick I think they go wiggins or embiid, though im hearing they don’t want another center, that could all change..

Id go wiggins, then at 6 hope MSmart or mcdermott are there and you draft one of them…

Was that Ai? WTF. He is living a hard life. It doesn’t matter what pick you have as long as its top 5. Theres no Lebron, Durant or Duncan in this draft. There are no game changers. There are some good young fringe all-star caliber players in the top 5. IMO.

Jabari Parker gonna be an absolute bulldozer in the nba not sure about any other too 3 guy though. Wiggins appears soft and disappears on the court so far this year

mh, I agree 100%. Wiggins is overrated. He hasn’t shown me any consistency, to be any sort of up-and-coming superstar. He isn’t well rounded, doesn’t make anybody around him better, & is a shoot first guy, with low %. Parker, is the pick, to carry this team to the next level. He is well rounded, & is NBA ready, right now. With that 2nd pick, we can get a big man, or SG (Randle, Vonleh, Harris, Hood, Levine, Seldon).

If we trade Thad for another 1st rounder, from Utah, SA, Charlotte, we can get Gordon, Cauley-Stein who are defense studs, with offensive upside, Harrell, Perry Ellis.

A question. I know the Phillies winning a championship means more and it was sxciting. The Eagles and Flyers made runs. The Sixers in the early 80s with Doc, Toney , Moses etc. But was that 200-2001 NBA season with the two game 7 playoff wins(even though they didn’t win a title) from purely a entertainment aspect the greatest and exciting sports year, for fans, in your lifetime? I would have to say it was mine.

AI’s speech was so much better than Donavon’s ( 5 will always love ya)
AI stiffed Ed Snider in his Thank you’s, LOL.
The respect AI showed Phil Jasner was a classy move and heart felt.
The crown booing when he thanked Steven A Smith and booing even louder when he thanked Howard Eskin. LOL funny stuff –

danger zone – the sixers plan might be suffering a setback.
New Orleans are full blown tank mode to get that first round 2014 draft pick back. They are only 2 or 3 games away from being a bottom 5 team and are trying to achieve just that.

The 76ers are 3 Off-Seasons/Drafts away from Contending for a
5-6-7-8 Playoff Position in the East..
Teams like the Wizards,Bobcats,Celtics,Magic,Toronto & Pistons are 2-3 Years ahead of them in terms of Rebuilding with Young Talent
But chances are 76ers need to have 3 Solid Picks in the 2014 Draft and add
2-3 Veterans who know their Roles, don’t cost a lot of $$$ and can be solid Mentors to their Young Roster
At the minimum,
76ers need a Pure SG, a true PF, a big nan who can Score
A back up PG, a rebounder, a pure 3 Pt Shooter and Defensive Stopper in the Backcourtvto chalkenge other Teams shooters..
These will not occur in a single Off-Season so even if 76ers get a Wiggins,Parker or Randle and another solid Prospects is not going to propel them from a 20 Win Franchise to a 40 Win Team and competing for Playoff Spot anytime soon.. This rebuild will take 3 Years minimum
And at least 2 Off-Seasons before they can really attract a top Tier Free-Agent
As the young guys get their feet wet in the NBA

I have some great great Sixers news guys, having new Commish Adam Silver at AI’s number retirement was a very very nice move by the Sixers organization.. Here’s why..

Commissioner Adam Silver not only defended the Sixers, but praised the organization’s strategy for attempting to build a championship contender. This comes a day after former Magic coach Stan Van Gundy slammed the Sixers’ apparent willingness to field a non-competitive team and tank a season to improve its draft stock. “I don’t agree with Coach Van Gundy at all,” Silver said. “I just came from the locker room, I just spoke to the coach. It’s an insult to the entire league to suggest that these guys are going out on the floor and aren’t doing their very best to win games.” Silver also said the team isn’t tanking, but rather “building from the ground up.” Silver said too that he “doesn’t believe a team has to go all the way to the bottom to get to the top…

We are a lock in the top 3, based off of his comments were a lock to get Wiggins, Parker or Embiid.. this is all I needed to hear was the commisioners backing. Now I know we won’t be cheated come draft night.. A very smart move by the organization..

Go Sixers!!!

I am sure the new NBA Commisioner is going around to every bottom feeder in the NBA which is about 1/2 the Leauge and telling those Organizations and Local Media & Fabs what a great Job they are doing in building themselves into Contendors.. What is the main Job of the Commisioner JH
Going to start calling you “Caotain Obvious”
Like that annoying Hotel.Com Commercial
Sheesh, can’t you come up with something more original than that..
Sheesh again!!!

He outright agreed with the Sixers organizations approach and that was refreshing to hear. In years past a team doing what the Sixers are doing would be deemed as tanking and Stern didn’t like that at all and openly said so…

Tanking still wont be rewarded and now that Silver met with the entire organization, the coach, was in the locker room, he can see that they are really working hard to build something huge here, unlike the pistons twolves kings etc..

And the commissioner isn’t going around to all the teams saying what he did, wtheck are you talking about? Stick to football and your silly mock drafts grandpa fraudman

The nba should change their name to the WWF or something… It is disgraceful! It is a distant 4th in the major sports… The commish has to ‘sell’ the sixers approach as courageous etc… Otherwise he’d have to admit that he is putting a subpar product out there and still demanding above par prices… A total disgrace.

More great Sixers News

This loss to Orlando puts the Magic four games behind the Sixers. So this loss basically clinches a top 2 worst record.

Go Sixers!!! Showyaluv Philly Showyaluv!!!

I usually cheer for them to win, but we know they will not. And I want them to get a top pick or two, so they can try and transform this franchise.

We were mediocre since the 2001 season, but I still rooted for them because Im a diehard fan. I root for the entire team, even the bench warmers. But now Its time to have sustained excellence and winning culture. The only way to do this is to build from the ground up. Drafting 3 studs would start that process, then signing a max player or maybe trading for one or two would ice it.

But this is the only route we have at this point.. OKC did it, so did the Spurs among others.. You gotta stink first then you rise..

I agree with you the format sucks, the league needs to make a lot of changes, but those changes wont come this season, maybe next year after Silver gets a year under his belt..

Again… A bullshit league.. Maybe they eliminate 10 teams so that the talent I’d condensed. Right one results of games are known before tip off.

That’s a good idea, eliminating some of these teams. The nba went wrong when they started adding these expansion teams, yes okc is good, but what other one comes to mind that has done anything?

Get rid of teams, allow players to become FAs and allow the teams with rich history like the Sixers, Pistons, Celtics even the Lakers to return to greatness and compete for championships.. This would generate major revenue for the league and would bring a lot of fans back..

What happened was the league was riding off the success Jordan brought to them, all eyes were on Jordan and the bulls. Stern got cute and started adding expansion teams thinking this would help the league make even more money when in reality, after Jordan retired, a lot of fans went with him..

Good stuff hac
