Howie Roseman Making His Mark As General Manager

HowieRoseman1Howie Roseman is slowly gaining acceptance by the Eagles brass and fan base.  He may not cast the look of a football guy, but he speaks the part and his resume is starting to build.  With two solid drafts and bringing Chip Kelly to Philadelphia, Roseman is taking the “right” steps to get the Eagles back into “championship” conversation.

The culture of how the Eagles do things is slowly changing.  Not only has locking up Peters, Kelce, Cooper and Maclin demonstrated a commitment to retain their own players, but it allows the focus to be directed into other areas.

Roseman has been forthcoming with his desire to not overpay for “top” players and his strategy to draft the best player available no matter the position.  The defense is going to be addressed in free agency as there are need areas across the board.   Roseman has not ruled out signing a top player at safety, but the chances of us landing a Byrd, Ward or Whitner  if they became available are closer to wishful thinking then actually occurring.

Year three for Roseman comes with high expectations.  He is in a good position with the salary cap and a deep draft class.

Speculation is underway for whom the Eagles will target in free agency and mock drafts are updated in a daily basis.

I believe in Roseman, and feel he will make intelligent free agent signings, attempt to trade assets for players and additional picks and have another successful draft class.  Roseman wants to do everything in his power to bring a championship to Philadelphia and has asked us to be patient in the process.

Free agency begins March 11th, and we all have our wish list of players.  I don’t anticipate Roseman engaging in bidding wars for top players; instead he will duplicate much of what he did last year with signing the next tier players.

Howie is one the best talent evaluators in the NFL. Eagle fans are so lucky they have such a quality man in charge of the roster.

Howie is smart….he has surrounded himself with good football minds that can evaluate talent. He has a good philosophy on free agency and has done a good job this off season retaining Eagles that were drafted, something he said should be priority in FA. He is the exact opposite of Joe Banner and has learned from the mistakes the Eagles made in the past with the Joe Banner philosophy.

Eagles trade #22 & desean Jackson
To the rams for #2 overall pick
And with that pick the eagles take Sammy Watkins

No way would the Rams do that trade. I would do it in a heart beat though. Although I’d probably take Clowney if he were there.

Why the hell would the Rams want Desean when they have Tavon Austin? They would be better off just drafting Watkins.

Howie’s done an overall nice Job the last 18 months as he has taken over the Front Office/GM Duties from the Joe Banner to Andy Reid back to Joe Banner and then back to Andy Reid dysfunction that we all saw from about 2007 to 2012
and get a little worse each year during teh end of Banner’s & Reid’s Era
Anyways, fast forward to now,
No real Suprises on my end by the Eagles and Howie is doing a good job and needs to to Relase Avant & Patrick Chung
Pursue Safety and DT in Free-Agency, Trade or Package Brandon Graham to get a valualbe 3rd/4th Round Pick from the Falcons,Colts,Pats or Vikings and then Focus on the Draft…

Eagles just signed Cedric Thornton to a one year deal, seems like they want to see a little more before they commit long term to him.

I thought the eagles would go Zack Martin, Stephon Truitt or Jordan Matthews in the draft then Howie goes out and signs Peters, Thornton, Cooper, and Maclin LOL — he keeps making me use an eraser on my mock draft wish list —
I still would go Stephon Tuitt at DE even with the Cedric Thornton signing.

Looking at the teams that may be in need for a wr but that’s in the win now mode there are several teams that the eagles could look at
1.Kansas city- reason and I knows desean they don’t really have a #1 wr bowe is good but not a #1 maybe a #2 and they are in a win now mode only thing that hurts this trade is they don’t have a second rd pick so they may not want to trade a 1st and 3rd maybe a 1,5 this year and a 3 rd next year.
2. The New England Patriots . This is easy they have been looking for wr’s for a long time now don’t have a true #1 or #2 Julian Edelman is better suited for the slot the do have the picks #1 – 29overall and 3rd and 5 th could get this done.
3. The 49ers they need speed in the worst way right now and they have a lot of draft picks now this could go either way with them they can go for 1,3 & 4 or if sf is unwilling to play ball maybe they do a deal where they give picks # 56 , 61, 94.

Bowe may not be a number one WR but they paid him as one, I doubt they would give up anything to take on another big contract, I see them picking up Avant and drafting a WR, theirs plenty in this years draft that can come right in and play.

Stay away from Dwayne Bowe.. Very overrated, does not play his size or block and drops way too many passes

If there is fire behind the Desean smoke, then I think a trade contender might be linked to where the former superstar ends up.

I wonder about the Vikings. They’re “desperate” because they know AP only has…what….2 years left at his current ability?

They panic and sign MV7 in a desperate “win now” move….then they trade for his favourite WR target.

Remember Minny had a bunch of picks last year and went all-defense. If they feel those guys are rounding into their own + Peterson…they could be very tempted to sign VIck and overpay for Desean.

I could see the Vikes entertaining the thought of Trading AP for lots of Picks
to help with their Rebuilding…The need lots of help and players to compete anytime soon in the NFC North with Packers,Bears & Lions

Mike Zimmer is not going to sign Mike Vick. No defensive coordinate turned HC brings in the turnover machine that is Mike Vick

I’ve said all Off-Season, Vick will end up in Tampa Bay playing for the BUc’s and HC Lovie Smith who does not like young QB’s..

1) Pats would not be interested in D-Jax..
They like bigger outside Targets and have their Small WR’s play the slot
(Amendola,Edlemen,etc,etc)
They would not be interested or willing to take on his Contract for they are one of te Cheapest Franchises in the NFL
2) KC could be, but not with Alex Smith at QB who does not have a big-enough arm for the Deep Routes so you end up negating D-Jax’s biggest assst
3) 49ers would be the Perfect Fit

Songs, TS, TheOne, VICK SUPPORTER, please don’t go to PFT and read the article about Kap wanting $18mil per year. Apparently everyone thinks that is the biggest joke ever. Although it might be good for you to see what other (non Eagles fans) think about him so you realize it’s not just us being racist when we criticize him.

Biglion if the pale faced Romo and that stiff Cutler with there 1 playoff win in 20 years combined of NFL experience can command 100 million dollar salaries Kapernick should get a 200 million dollar salary with all his success in his 3 years in the league.

For all the geniuses on here who claim Foles lacks arm strength, ourlads has data on velocity of qbs at the combine since 2008

Foles at 57mph among the strongest arms, kap at 59, and the highest recorded was 60 this year by qb from vs tech

That’s good information Jake. I think some people don’t understand that Foles likes to throw feather touch passes, as he has the accuracy and feel for his receivers as far as where they are going to be when he passes the ball. They misconstrue throwing a touch pass for having a weak arm. Foles likes to throw passes that makes it easy for the receiver to catch.

I saw the velocity article too.

Throwing a ball with touch, and allowing the receiver to go and get it are very big attributes of Foles. Having a strong arm is great, but the receiver needs to be able to handle it. Great point.

Good stuff Jake, unless you have a noodle arm like Chad Pennington the arm strength issue is moot. It’s about touch, vision and ball placement. Arm strength is over rated.

March 4, 2014 9:11 am

What is also interesting is that a lot of the high profile qbs like rg3, luck, stafford did not participate

Cam newton and Russell Wilson at 55

I agree that provided you have sufficient velocity on your throws it doesn’t matter, I’m guessing 54 and above, but there are qbs that throw in low 50s, some in the 40s at the combine, and that drop off will be noticeable
