Notes From The Sixers’ 92-81 Loss To Orlando

mcwpistonsThe Philadelphia 76ers lost their 14th straight game on Sunday night, falling to the Magic 92-81. Their record drops to 15-44.

  • For the first time in several weeks, the Sixers went through an entire game without allowing the opponent to drop 30 or 40 on them in a single quarter.
  • The Sixers kept the game close through four quarters, but a lot of that had to do with the Magic missing two key starters in Jameer Nelson and Aaron Afflalo.
  • The Sixers have given a lot of players some career nights this year, and last night was Tobias Harris’ turn. Harris scored a career-high 31 points to go with eight rebounds and three steals.
  • Former Sixer Nik Vucevic continues to kill his old team, registering another big double-double with 18 points and 17 rebounds.
  • Thaddeus Young led the Sixers with 29 points, eight rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Young continues to produce big stat lines for the Sixers each night.
  • Henry Sims started again at center, and scored 12 points with seven rebounds in a 30-minute run.
  • James Anderson struggled mightily in this one, scoring just two points on 1-7 shooting.
  • Michael Carter-Williams scored 17 points, but shot just 7-20. He also contributed 11 rebounds and six assists.
  • Tony Wroten led all bench scorers with 12, but shot just 5-14.

Final Thoughts

In order for the Sixers to be competitive in a game, the opposition must first be another team destined for the lottery, and must also be missing at least two of their best players.

And even that isn’t enough.

The Sixers have truly hit rock bottom. In the past week, they’ve lost to Milwaukee and Orlando twice. That’s two of the worst teams in the league, who have a combined 30 wins and 90 losses between them.

This team may not win another game this season.

The new NBA commish needs to find a way to make the league more like the NFL where you can go from worst to first much quicker. The hard cap and long contract lengths in the NBA kill the league. Getting out of the basement requires tanking which is awful for the fans.

MCW had 8 turnovers yesterday. The magic have figured out how to defend MCW. They forced him to go left and noticed he has a high left hand dribble when initially switches hands. They have picked his pocket 5 times the last 2 games on a double team when he switches his dribble hand.

Thad Young did score 29 but the man he guarded, Tobias Harris scored 31.

That’s typical of Thadd Young, he’s man he is guard has Career Nights against him & 76ers almost every night out.. Thad is a Player without a Position , hope the 76ers Trade him and one of those 2nd Round Picks to move back into the 1st Round …

Andrew Wiggins has no idea how to play without the basketball. Parker, McDermott, Warren, Hood, Saric all know how to find open spots to drift into to create passing lanes to receive the basketball. I love Wiggens talent I just wish he would get a little Rip Hamilton into his game.

I like my playmaking guards to have the ball in their hands the majority of the time. In the nba, expect to see Wiggins bringing the ball up calling plays setting his teammates up as his game evolves..

What it is is that coach self plays more of a conventional style of offense. He believes in passing the ball inside to the PFs and Cs and then out to the wings.

If you watch youll see Wiggins hanging out around the 3pt line waiting for the ball to be thrown out to him, that’s what the game plan is hes just going along with it, hes being a team player..

If he wanted he could put up 20 or more a night but hes an unselfish player..

Make no mistake about it, this kid has game. He’s passed my eye test and is still growing as a player..

Im not comparing his overall game to his airness because this kid is far from a finished product but if you look at Jordans numbers in college and Wiggins, they almost mirror each other…

Point is, don’t write the kid off just yet and say Parker McDermott Hood or whoever else that’s a guard/sf are better when they constantly have the ball in their hands and with the way Self game plans it is more of a team oriented brand of basketball not just allowing 1 guy to go off for big points, which Im not mad about because he has two low post monsters on his team ..

SN, with the brand of ball the Sixers play that fast break style, I believe it favors Wiggins over Parker, though im not saying Parker would be a terrible choice, I just think Wiggins is more athletic, a better defender and is a lot faster than Parker who I feel is over weight. I do like his game too though he just needs to lose a few..

Let’s not try to get cute if Wiggins is on the board when were picking whether its 1st 2nd 3rd, pick the kid with the sky high potential, with scoring ability and defensive prowess..

Kaboom!
New Orleans lost their 8th game in a row to the kings. They are now only 2 games away from being a bottom 5 team delaying the Jrue Holliday 2014 first round draft pick compensation to the 2015 season as their pick is top 5 protected. Monty Williams is as good as fired if they relinquish that first round pick.

I have just watched several minutes of sixers basketball…. Er, um, er… Well not really basketball but there were 10 guys on a court with baskets on each end and a ball… That was where the similarities to what I’m watching and basketball ends.
I would expect the nba to announce a full refund to anyone who paid more than a dollar for these tickets
