Notes From The Phillies’ 6-1 Loss To Tampa Bay

robertoThe Philadelphia Phillies lost their Grapefruit League match against the Tampa Bay Rays.

  • Roberto Hernandez made his second start of the Spring, and turned in a pretty good outing, lasting three innings and giving up no runs on one hit. Hernandez struck out three.
  • Paul Manship tossed two scoreless innings, and struck out two.
  • Philippe Aumont pitched a scoreless inning, giving him two consecutive scoreless outings.
  • Mike Stutes suffered an implosion in the seventh inning, giving up five runs on three hits and two walks.
  • Justin De Fratus gave up a run in the ninth inning.
  • Mikail Franco got the start at third base, and went 2-4 with a couple of singles.
  • Darin Ruf played first base and went 1-3 with a walk.
  • Domonic Brown went 0-2 with two walks.
  • John Mayberry went 0-3.
  • Freddy Galvis started at shortstop, and went 1-2.
  • Will Nieves started at catcher, and went 1-3 with an RBI.
  • Ben Revere went 1-3 and stole a base.

Final Thoughts

The Phillies haven’t had a lot of good news concerning their starting rotation, but Roberto Hernandez has been off to a good start so far.

In two starts, Hernandez has allowed two runs over five innings. While Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez has been struggling, and Jonathan Pettibone has been unable to take the mound while battling shoulder injuries, Hernandez is getting closer towards locking himself up a spot in the rotation.

Hernandez hasn’t had an effective season in the major leagues since 2010, when he went 13-14 with a 3.77 ERA for Cleveland. He had a disaster of a season in 2011, going 7-15 with a 5.25 ERA, and wasn’t able to reestablish himself in the majors until last year when he went 6-13 with a 4.89 ERA for Tampa Bay.

Its going to be difficult to expect Hernandez to be anything more than a fifth starter, but the Phillies desperately need a veteran like him to step up and help sure up their rotation before April hits.

stat wise in an honest competition Mikail Franco would be winning the 3rd base job.

Can Franko play a little 2B and spell Utley a bit or is he strictly a 3B?

Franco won’t go north… He can’t play second… Ultimately you will see Asche at second and Franco at third

That’s why Utley should have been traded last year.

Amaro and Ownership were too pussy’s to trade a Utley, or a Rollins or a Lee again, for fear of backlash from Fans/Local Media ..
This is what Happens when a Fan Base and Ownership/Management Gorup become too emotionally tied to their Players or want to continue to live in the Past which is quite Common for Philly Fans in General, for some reason.. It’s as if they are afraid to let go of the past, to live in the present and to move forward and just are always clinging onto that past, those glory years as if it has anything to do with the now.. kind of sad to see

imo rollins was virtually worthless and not gonna get you top prospects, i wouldnt have traded lee as he will be valuable to us this year and his value will remain high or higher this year. BUT utley had to go and wouldve got you at least 2 top prospects. spinelss. he couldve moved utley for 2 top prospects to the tigers, pirates, dodgers, athletics and others then resigned him this summer. PATHETIC

The Rollins bashers from the lunatic fringe are at it again! Who plays short in their fantasy little minds? Tulowitzki and Desmond are young homegrowns they or anyone like them don’t get traded…The year after signing he won a GG and hit 23hr.. Last year was a down year on a pathetic team… This year if he plays in 145 (something he always does and Tulowitzki has only done twice) I am betting my GCOBB posting rights on .260, 15, and 90 runs… 2/3 of those are the bet…
Again who plays short? This reminds me of over zealous fans booing #20 loudly and viciously… I’m sure it was nine of you! as a 14 year old I remember challenging an entire section of boo birds to a fight at the vet… I was calling them all out …my dad and a security guard got me out. I’m sure none of those morons admit today they booed him… Negative nitwits tend to be revisionist historians

lol @ haveafool

youreee the same fool who defended the fraud halladay last year. i rememebr all your “oh gawd, docs a warrior, docs a machine, docs a fricking GAWD” and then look what happened

fraud shows up and gets lit up and spring training, says he has stomach flu. fraud shows up in April, gets lit up in two starts, and suddenly his shoulder is bothering him.

fools like yourself think it was age and injury. but in the real world, baseball caught up to him.

your defense of rollins is just as bad. horrible lazy good for nothing teammate. wont trad ehimself so franchise can improve because old jimmy has “records to break”

idiot.

I defended the Halladay signing and still do… Guy has disc problems.. Guess he should have worked through them the way you would have.
As for Rollins… Bring a replacement to the table … Until then continue your ‘fan’ ways
