Who Will Be Better In 2014? Maclin or Jackson?

JeremyMaclin&DeSeanJackson1The former teammates never had the opportunity to play together under Chip Kelly.  Maclin went down early in training camp and was busy resting and rehabbing the rest of the season.  He watched how Desean Jackson in the new Eagle offense eclipsed previous career highs with receptions, targets and receiving yards on the way to his third Pro-Bowl.

Maclin is being counted on to take over the role that Desean has left behind.  The Eagles have added some additional receiving threats, but the #1 wide receiver on the Eagles is Maclin.  Maclin has never eclipsed 1,000 receiving yards in a season, and has “zero” Pro Bowl invitations.  Maclin is also coming back from a serious knee injury.  He was never perceived as a top end speed receiver and one can only hope he has regained full mobility to generate separation from defenders and create plays after the catch.

Desean’s role is undefined in Washington, but he certainly was signed to a new contract to be more than a compliment to their offensive attack.  He will certainly eat into the league leading 113 receptions that Garcon hauled in last season.  RG3 is now healthy and with a new head coach, the passing game should certainly improve from last season.

Taking into consideration the offensive schemes of the two teams, the starting quarterbacks, offensive line and surrounding receiving threats, the Eagles arguably have the upper hand in all of these categories.

As for the players themselves, Desean has the three pro-Bowls, the long list of highlight plays and 50+ yard scores.

Maclin has a couple of nice games to his resume, with fans and the coaching staff still believing he can live up to that first round draft selection after a monster 2008 season at Missouri.

The past is the past, and the question is specifically for this season.  With the “plug and play mentality,” Maclin will step in and take over a lot of what Desean was doing scheme wise last season.

Will Maclin raise his game under the Chip Kelly guidance this season?  Will Maclin eclipse better numbers then Desean in 2014?

We won’t know until after the 2014 Season
My guess is that Maclin has better Stats for D-Jax who will have issues getting deep balls tossed to him since QB RGIII bales on so many Plays too quickly and RGIII will scramble more often therefore missing D-Jax on many opportunities..

and if DeSean does, then what will you say????????

You hope he does, so that YOUR personal stance on getting rid of him will have some weight, because if he has a good year, it WILL be because of his personal ability, not Chip Kelly’s Offense……..which would make both you, and Kelly look ridiculous for even suggesting such a move…..

I know you don’t want him to have a good season, but he will….

desean will have 62 catches, 1020 yards, 4 touchdowns

i think maclin will beat him in the following categories this year:
catches
touchdowns
first downs

exactly…the bottom line is Djax is a better receiver than Maclin…Maclin who is bigger and stronger than Djax has a serious problem when cornerbacks get physical with him…he is not at all comfortable going over the middle and he fumbles the ball a little too much. He is coming off of major knee surgery…I always believed that he needed heart surgery as well!

When they first re-upped Maclin, I thought that he could have a monster season in the slot catching a ton of ball since he would be covered by a lesser CB. Now that he is the #1, I am not so sure. He is a good WR who should have a solid season, but I think that that ball will be spread around way too much for him to have the numbers that D-Jax had last year.

That being said, I don’t think that D-Jax will match his numbers from last year either. They are a running team that also has another solid outside threat in Garcon.

Bugs, on point as usual….I agree, I don’t see DJAX having the same type of season he had last season, due to the points you mentioned…Mainly because the system is different. I”m just crossing my fingers that Maclin returns healthy and can go all season…Without him out there, the Eagles don’t have a WR that will get any respect from CB’s and opposing defensive coord’s. Which is why the Eagles are trying to stack the team with offensive threats, to counter the loss of DJAX, It won’t be a single player tearing it up, I wouldn’t be surprised if Ertz wound up leading the team in receiving.

Real, I was thinking the same thing about Ertz man. If Sproles is healthy the whole season (not likely) that would be a big boost. Think that they also need to get some big contributions out of Mathews, Huff or both. Not even sure that Maclin will be here next year.

I will defer to you though. You were right on point with DJax last season.

I agree Paul. But I think it is because Desean has a very prolific partner who will take away a lot of targets. Cooper is still only good for about 50 catches and will likely have similar numbers to Mathews. I am going to put Maclin down for 74 catches, 1150 yards, 8 TDs. No PB love. That will be good for bargaining as he will market as a top notch possession receiver in the 6-8 mil range with an undeniable track record (after five unspectacular seasons) of not being a star WR. Desean will have 65 catches for 1125, 6 TDs.

Jeff?

You joking…….

Right?

If Foles had an arm Desean would have had more TD’s and yards.

Remember when he was running wide open only to see “Captain Checkdown” checkdown?

Well, now teams will stack “8” and play the checkdowns and buble screens now there’s no reciever who can blow the top of the defnse and demand double coverage, and when “Captain Checkdown” attempt to go long we can expect a sack, intentional grounding, or an “INT”.

Copy and Paste it!

Oh, the question is ridiculous.

Maclin won’t come near Desean’s numbers.

He’s the “wing man” at best.

Maclins numbers will be slightly better as he’ll have a real QB throwing him the ball for the first time since Mcnabb. Desean is a better deep threat and can make a bigger impact on a game. However I think/hope that the Eagles will be a more balanced team this year and that will mean better success.

Im just glad Vick is gone.

People get mad Songs…but you are right on the money…DJax would have had a lot more catches if Foles had a stronger arm and if he wasn’t checking down so much. Jeff McClaine showed the videotape of Djax running wide open against New Orleans but Foles opting for the checkdowns, missing him…didnt get him the ball! There were several times against Dallas this year and other teams …DJax is running behind the cornerbacks but Foles just didn’t have enough hummph..to get it out to him…

Many are forgetting about that ACL injury. If he returns 100% he will have a very good season. But a lot of that will have to do with the offense he is in. WSH and PHI, have two different offenses and different coaches. One team may pass more than the other increasing the chances of production per player. One team may have to play from behind more than the other throughout the season. There are too many factors to consider. In the end all that will matter is who had the better team.

Another glorious regular season moment from the Meadowlands as we win the division from the hated Giants on Sunday Night Football on the last game of the regular season. Then we lose another tough first round playoff game to San Fran. 2015, the San Fran/Seattle/New Orleans power block dies down enough for us to have our shot. Teams like Carolina, Rams, Atl, Ariz and Chic also struggling to fill the void fall behind us. Rodgers always a factor so the secondary has to tighten up next year to get to the SB because we will have to beat him somewhere along the line to get in.

Sources state that when RGIII gets injured early on this Season, that Back-Up
Kirk Cousins goes to a more dink & dunk Passing Offense where D-Jax is not featured that much since QB Cousins lacks a big arm for the deep pass,
but Cousins plays well the final 11 Games of the 2014 Season and the
Redskins decide to trade both RGIII and D-Jax after the 2014 Season
RGIII returns a 2nd & 4th Round PIck in the 2014 Draft while the Redskins get no suitors for D-Jax and he ends up being flat out released about 1 Year from now…
Sources are from the Redskins Blog Site “Hog-Heaven Forever” if anyone wants to verify ..

Mhenski what you fail to realize is Djax is 5 10 170lbs. You get a damn pass with that’ size He is fucking tiny. For a guy that small to step on a NFL:field is fucking insane. For a guy that size to put up any type of numbers at 170lbs is special. Do you understand the heart you have to have to do that? He physically cant do certain things. Its not his fault it is what it is. So no hes not going over the middle, no he isn’t outmuscling anyone he is 170 damn lbs. But at his size to make 3 pro bowls, regardless if you think its a “joke’ or not is incredible. To have more 50 yard tds in his 1st 6 years than anyone in NFL history is unbelievable. To be labeled the best deep threat in the NFL is no joke. Do you know how many football players are in college and the pros that don’t make it? Fans sometimes just don’t get it.

I listen to every defensive player in the NFL that plays the Eagles talk about how Djax changes there defensive coverage’s. How he makes them keep safeties deep, how they must double him or roll coverage’s. Not one fucking time have I ever heard ANY defensive player say shit about Jeremy Maclin. Never ever ever has a defensive player come out and said anything about covering Maclin. You come to gcobb.com and Djax sucks, Maclin is better. What a joke. Only in bizzaro world (gcobb.com) does anyone think that.Djax isn’t worth this he doesn’t do that.

I hear ya about his restrictions and I by no means wanted him gone but he was set to be the 3rd highest paid wr in the nfl this year and if I were a gm id be extremely hesitant to pay him that. He has too many limitations to be the 3rd highest paid wr in the game.

Maclin can’t be compared to Djax at all but if healthy he can be very successful here. Regardless if he succeeds this year the writing is on the wall that our wr group of the future is coop and the 2 new guys. Maclin or cooper will be gone next year.

And what have the Eagles Won with D-Jax…
Time to move on, let’s See if Coach Kelly is innovative
Enough to still have the Offense Flying Gear
If their a Offense struggles, then a valid argument,
If Offense keeps rolling along and spreads the ball to out 5-6-6 Receivers (WR/TE/RB’s) then nothing lost in my opinion,
In fact, the Eagles Offense gets that much harder to Defend and Plan for if production is spread out among the other Players on Offense as opposed to Defenses keying on one weapon
The Patriots & Packers have done this for 15 Years with pretty good results.. As has the Saints under Sean Peyton
Peyton Manning with the Colts & now Broncos..

We all find out if Coach Kelly is as good and innovative
As advertised…. Until then, no use in crying about D-Jax’s departure.

Good Question? Djax vs Maclin in stats battle.
Mike Vick definitely suppressed both players skill set since he was such a horrible passer. Can Jay Gruden develop RG3? I don’t think so, RG3 ran a gimmick elementary high school offense the last 2 years because he couldn’t scan the field. Nick Foles was head and shoulder above RG3 in passing which tilts the stat battle in Maclin’s favor especially in the red zone.

Irish RGIII got the ball to Garcon about 150 times last year on a bum knee.Garcon lead the league in receptions so I think its safe to say with RGIII healthy this year will have no problem getting the ball to Djax. Also didn’t RGIII throw for about 500 yards against the Eagles in each gamevs the Eagles and a last second heroic int in the endzone by Boykins preserved the Eagles victory?

Dag,

I know RG3 got the ball to Garcon 113 times last year. That didn’t leave much for the rest of the receivers. Jordan Reed the TE was second on the team in receptions and he only had 45.

That’s my point, if you throw the ball to Jackson he will catch it and have a big year. If you are going to continue to complete 100+ passes to Garcon, then Jackson wont be having a big year.

The same goes for TDs…. Between RG3 and Cousins they only totaled 20 TD passes – Garcon only had 5 TD catches. I can’t see Jackson catching 9 TD passes in the Redskins system.

I want Wiggins at 3

– and trade MCW, the #10 pick, and 3 of the 5 – 2nd Rounders’ to whomever is in the position to draft Exum, and their 1st Rounder next year…..His ceiling is greater than MCW, and he is a better Point Guard than he is right now.

Now you seem to really like Exum, what made you have such a change of heart now?

Ive been telling you he projects well to the league and that he has more upside then MCW..

Id love to have Wiggins and Exum both.. What a tandem that would be.. Especially with the way Exum can score the ball, hes a better scorer than MCW, really he could run the 2 if needed..

I also mentioned that MCW benefited from a weak draft (why he was ROY) last year and still was drafted 11th, this Kid Exum is in a strong draft and hes slated to go top 5..

Hes a better offensive player than MCW is at the age of 23, Exum is only 18 19 years old…

I told you then that I felt he was a better point guard right now….But, it would be difficult to justify drafting him to play the point – which he is – over MCW, considering the year he was having, because Exum is not a shooting guard.

My point to you was that he wasn’t going top 4, as you were saying at that time and he isn’t – but he is still a good prospect.

I also wouldn’t mind if the Sixers would make a deal involving Thaddeus, #10, 4 -2nd Rounders’, and a future #1 in 2017 to the Milwaukee Bucks for their #2 pick – to ensure drafting Wiggins, AND Parker…..

Then, if the Sixers wanted to trade MCW straight up for Exum, and that teams #1 next year, I think that benefits the Sixers..

I dont think the Sixers are in a position to trade future picks, they wanna hold on to them esp with next years draft supposedly being deep again.. (Okafor)

The best case scenario for both Wiggins and Parker would be for them to play in Philly. Not just because I’m a huge fan of our team, but because of the coaching/teaching/developmental program the sixers now have here and both the cavs and bucks couldnt even come close..

So I know the top 3 guys are hoping teams trade up or that teams pass on them and I mentioned yesterday the power that high profile draft picks have..

They could decline visit invitations, private workouts, private interviews etc.. this in a way let’s the team know that they have no interest in playing for their organization..

But I’m feeling better and better with the position were in cliff.. 3rd and 10th? Thats the dream scenario.. were finally in a position where we get who falls and hopefully we won’t be the team that makes a mistake…

gm, Im not sure those guys can play together.. Id have to see it.. And im willing to take that chance..

But think about this, we may not even have to give up out 3rd to move up..

We may just have to trade 10 and three 3rds along with Thad to move into the top 2

So Lebron can go home again, Cliff I value your opinion so what does this franchise need to do other than throwing away another season to become relevant again?

Keep in mind, high profile draft picks, potential franchise changing players have the ability to control their own destiny to a certain degree. Here’s how..

They may decide not take certain private workouts with teams or they may possibly decide not to take certain private interviews etc..

This is what high profile draft picks can do.. An example, skipping the Draft Combine..

Stuff like this..

It wouldn’t shock me if Wiggins didn’t take meetings or work outs with the dysfunctional organization that is the Cleveland Cavs or the hapless joke of an organization the Milwaukee Bucks..

Ultimately they cant control too much but they can send a message to teams, letting them know that they do not want to play for them..

The Sixers are the best destination for Wiggins out of all the 3 teams and its not even close.. Here is where he will be taught the game of basketball and be helped to take his game to the next level..

And theyre in the process of building a new practice facility, this will be a team that hopefully FAs and draft picks would want to play for…

I think Wiggins will be there at 3…

Cleveland & Milwaukee don’t need big men. So Wiggins & Parker will be gone! We don’t need Embid, nor Exum, unless you’re trading Noel &/or MCW, which puits you right back where you started! Use your f^#@ing brain. Cleveland, & Milwaukee would be retarded like you, if they pass on Wiggins, &/or Parker!

Cleveland absolutely needs a big man, their starting Center is Spencer Hawes and the always injured Varejao with Zeller as the 2nd string guy. Milwaukee needs guards more and will target Wiggens for the SG position ( Wiggins is perfect for the triangle offense as he likes to play on the side of the court as opposed to the top of the key. )

Exactly,it is why they traded for Spencer Hawes before the deadline. They have wing players in Irving, Waiters and Thompson, where will Parker or Wiggins play? No room for them there..

Theyre going Embiid.. Book it, unless they trade out…

And they will NOT trade #1 for for Kevin Love, hes good but not that good.. They could get him in the offseason after he becomes and FA. They wont trade #1 for him.. That’s non sense..

Having Relevant Franchises in Boston, NY and Los Angeles is the Goal of the NBA.. Now whether Philly is a Good Team or not means very little to the Long-Term Success of the “NBA”.. but having strong Franchises in the Big 3 Markets as well as Chicago is very High on the Priority List of the NBA Front Office…
Philly is treated as a 2nd Class Citizen as usual…
It is what it is …

There is no way in hell Cavs are doing that trade nor would Rondo want to be in Cleveland.

And where in the world do you get that Rondo is an undisciplined guard? He may have the best instincts and game management of any PG in basketball.

This is definitely a football site.

People kill with these stupid questions…..

Like.

What have the Eagles won with Djax?

As if he’s the reason the Eagles haven’t won.

Is Djax responsible for the wasted first round busts or Juan Castillo as defensive coordinator?

Maybe Djax is responsible for drafting Nate Allen and bringing in Patrick Chung.

Djax did his job here as an Eagles despite the dysfunction from the front office on down, and it’s disingenuius for any of you to now act as if he wasn’t one of the rare reasons the team had any success through the dysfunction.

Let’s claim Andre Johnson and Megatron aren’t valuable to their teams because they haven’t won anything.

You all will soon know how valuable Djax was to the Eagles when the check downs and bubble screens are blown up, now there’s no threat of the home run.

Let’s see how many yards our real star on offence, “Shady McCoy” gets when there’s np cutback space with 8 men in the box on regularly.

This season is Reality season and how many of you will point to the Front office for letting Djax go “for absolutely nothing” if the team sucks ass with a losing season?

Barring injury DeSean Jackson will have a better year due to the fact that teams will be trigger shy when it comes to constantly doubling him or Garcon exclusively.

The Redskins running game will probably get a major boost. (that’s just by getting rid of the “RB Retread Master” coach) Also, the deficiencies in their O-Line will be minimized just because the safeties won’t be able to stack the box.
