Eagles-Steelers What To Watch For

ChipKelly8As the Eagles prepare for their third preseason game against the Pittsburg Steelers, there are certainly more questions and feelings of worry than confidence that the Eagles are “locks” to win the NFC East.   Forget the 0-2 record; the focal point should be on an area that we dodged for the most part in 2013, “injuries” to key payers.

As Thursday night football approaches, the regular season starting wide receiver tandem of Maclin and Cooper finally appears ready to make its debut.  At this point, it’s almost less about being excited to see their potential, but more about the “reality check” of how impactful their presence will be for the offense.  Cautiously optimistic as we believe in the fact that coach Chip Kelly puts the onus on the execution of the system, and not the player.

The depth at the wide receiver, cornerback and linebacker position needs some answering; and it has to come on Thursday.   Injuries have sabotaged our ability to see what Cooper & Maclin bring as starters.   With Nolan Carroll sidelined for the Bears and Patriots game; Roc Carmichael and Curtis Marsh displayed the drop-off in talent once you tap into the depth after Williams, Fletcher and Boykin.  Speaking of “thinning” depth at a position; if any of the starting linebackers were to miss significant time, we are in serious trouble.   The backup linebackers I anticipate on making this roster are Smith, Graham, Goode, Braman and Matthews.  I see a lot more special team contribution than reliable depth at the position.

Here is something that should not warrant our time and attention, but due to possible ignorance on Chip’s behalf, I need to see a field goal of 45+ yards made by our field goal kicker.  I’m confident the Eagles can score touchdowns; I don’t share the same feelings about Alex Henery.  After the draft, excitement built around the competition that Carey Spears aka “Murder Leg” would bring to training camp and in the preseason.  The last sighting of Mr. Spears was when you watched the YouTube clips of him making tackles, the guy has been terrible during training camp, and is not making the roster.

Remember when the Eagles under Andy Reid went into the season without reliable roster positions?  Greg Lewis returning kicks; Dan Klecko making the move to fullback?  Veteran free agent Rob Bironas, call him, work him out; at the very least, demonstrate the urgency to upgrade a position of need even if there is no realistic plan of signing the guy.

Worried about left tackle for the first four games?  You should be if the effort by Barbre the first two games is a sample of what he will provide during the absence of Lane Johnson.  He will get tested against big, physical athletes with the Steelers defense, and he must play better.

Bennie Logan and Fletcher Cox are the starters, yet I’ve seen better overall play from Vinny Curry and Beau Allen.  No coach on the Eagles is going to convince me with their reasons for why Curry sees limited snaps.  When a player has proven every time he is on the field to get after the quarterback, you insert him into the line-up, a steady pass rush is critical for the success of the defense.

The Steelers present terrific challenges for Chip Kelly and the Eagles on the offensive, defensive and special team units.  With a more difficult regular season schedule, I think it’s beneficial that the preseason game in which our starters will see the most playing time; it’s against a playoff caliber team like the Steelers.

For those fans that are on the “seesaw” with trying to project the Eagles this season; a lot should be made of how the Eagles play Thursday.

Home game, starters to play into the third quarter; this is a sampling of what we should expect come the regular season.  It’s time to put it together; execute across the board and minimize the ridiculous penalties and turnovers.

It’s pretty simple,
Watch the man on man match-up along both
Line of scrimmages this week…
Can the Eagles win the majority of these 1 on 1 match-ups
Can the Receivers beat press coverage and get open
Can the Front 7 get of blocks, penetrate and make sound tackles
Is their a Pass-Rush from the 1st Unit..
Can the Secondary cover Antonio Brown & the Steelers well
Can the Safeties keep the Steelers TE’s at bay
Can Kicker Henerey get his Confidence back
Who steps up in the Return Game now that Huff is injured
And probably out for the Season..
Can Sanchez continue to move the 2nd Unit and look sharp.
Which 3rd RB steps up and remains Healthy
(Tucker, Josey or new Eagle Barner if he Plays)
since Polk is a ? to even make Opening Day Roster
And may be placed on Pup or IR list..
This is what I’ll be looking for…

Will the Refs continue to ruin the Spirt by calling every ticky/tacky penalty in the Passing game for both sides making Offensive Drives bogus
and undeserved..

Quality LB Depth should not be an issue
Look for Quality Back-ups to be cut from
The Panthers,Seahawks, Ravens, Browns & Steelers,Chargers
Lots of Teans in need of LB’s like the Cowboys, Falcons,Colts
So the Eagles better move fast to scoop up a Player or two as well
As CB

It will be more interesting because the starters play more, but to view this game as any litmus test, good or bad, is foolish, in fact we will not know what kind of eagles team we have this year until at least mid season, but I know many here will say this guy is trash, Maclin is soft, and no matter what songs will contribute with his weekly mantra that the quarterback is “ass”

Meanwhile, I’m going to enjoy this season and view the Eagles, under the direction of Chip Kelly, who I believe will prove to be a great innovator, as a team on the rise and building a championship team. This will be the greatest Era of Eagles football.

Paulman, why would the eagles draft Marcus Smith so high , when most pundits.feel he should not have been very high on the board. And not a lot of expierence.I think Kelly and Howie have very sharp minds So ,It is very confusing as to why this happened, Why do you think it was done? Thanks Paulman.

Hey Patrick
I believe the Eagles had a priority to Draft a OLB Prospect to replace the aging Trent Cole and the misplaced Brandon Graham and who is Athletic,Long and Can Drop in Pass Coverages but still be able to get after the QB and that would be good fit in Davis’s “3-4 Scheme”..
When looking at the OLB’s in this Draft that fit this criteria,
there wasn’t a whole lot of Depth after the highly Rated early Selections of Mack,Barr who went Top 10.
The Next Group or “2nd Tier” of OLB/DE’s that we left were the Following

#34 – DeMarcus Lawrence – (Cowboys – 6-2 250lbs – Very Athletic but not a lot of College Experience)
#40- Kyle VanNoy – (Lions – 6-3 – 245lbs – More of a Cover Player than a Pass-Rusher, strength at point of attack is an issue)
#47- Trent Murphy – (Redskins 6-5 250lbs- Strong but simply not Athletic enough to play standing up and out in space)
#50 – Jeremiah Attachou – (Chargers 6-3 255lbs – Well Rounded and a late bloomer and may end up as the best of the lot)

So I believe the Eagles felt that by Trading Back from #22 to #26 to obtain an additional 3rd Round Pick from the Browns and to still be able to get a promising and probably the best of the 2nd Tier OLB’s knowing that waiting until to their original 2nd Round Pick of #54 to address this position that the Top #5 OLB’s would all be gone.. When looking at the Depth of the Draft at WR & DB’s, the Eagles probably felt they could address these Positions with quality Prospects in the 2nd/3rd/4th/5th Rounds while they needed to get that OLB early would be my thinking..

That new LB of theirs is the TRUTH. Foles can fuck around and throw some lame ducks if he wants too, it will be pick city with that kid on the hunt.

With that said the feared Steelers D is still too old and not the fearsome unit they have been years past. So we will see. Should be a good gage where the offense is and as far as the D…well…let’s just hope they aren’t embarrassing.

@Bling

What’s your take on Bortles? You think they should start him over Henne?

I’m still not convinced (though he has looked decent-ish) but unlike Bridge and Manziel he hasn’t played with the ones at all and hasn’t been blitzed or tested much on defense (Bowles forget it was a pre-season game and brought the pain against Bridge in their last pre-season game and Skins brought the heat with Manziel as well.)

I have been really surprised how accurate he’s been, if he can get some reps with the ones I’d start him. Henne isn’t going anywhere. They just throw him into the deep end like they did with Gabbert. Gus Bradley is the truth teams are going to hate coming here to play because his defense is going to beat the hell out of people.

Bortles looks like he can be a good one. Most likely the best of the 2014 drafted QB’s. He just looks comfortable in the pocket and has good awareness. Gus may have made a good pick there at #3

Bridge is the best of the 2014 draft class. He was during the draft. He is now. He got screwed, but Minn will be laughing heartily for years to come.

Bortles looks good – but unlike Manziel and Bridge hasn’t been tested much in the pre-season, only been blitzed once and hasn’t played with the ones at all. So right now I’m giving him the “it’s pre-season” label.

If they give him time with the ones in this third game there will be a better sense of where he stands.

Sigh.

Look, no one knows who will be better…anyone who says so now is just basing that off pure hopeful speculation.

What I don’t get is why you feel you need to lie to promote your guy with the whole “hasn’t been tested” bs?

Week 1 TB entered in the first q, and borts mid way through e 2nd.
Week 2 Borts came in mid 2nd, while TB didn’t get on to the field till 5 mins to go n the 3rd q.

Both have seen a pretty equal amount of time vs #1, 2 and 3 Ds.

Borltes hasn’t played any with the ones. At all. In any game.

Noticed how I said Borltes is the only one who hasn’t.

Borltes has only seen completely Vanilla defense – no blitzes nada – both the other two have.

As I said – I don’t have much of an opinion on Borltes b/c of all the above, but he has looked good.

And no – I’m not basing anything off of pure hopeful speculation – though it is merely just a pure opinion at this point.

Bortles played in the first half the other day. Bridewater didn’t enter the game till 3/4 of the way through the 3rd. Whether it was 1s or not, he faced guys higher on the Chic depth chart than TB did.

Regardless, it doesn’t matter….its just you spinning hype for your guy.

Both TB and BB come into excellent situations for young QBs. BB has what looks like a solid and developing D, and TB has some nice weapons at RB, TE and now WR in Minny.

Both guys get to sit behind veteran QBs that have no expectations for success, so there will be no pressure on either young kid when they take over mid-season or next year. They won’t have to be great, they’ll just have to be….anything is better than Henne or Cassels as far as the majority of the fan base is concerned.

This is in contrast to Foles, who, because he replaced a guy who was a hero to a bunch of you, gets people saying, “if he does;t win a playoff game….and if he’s not great…..!” Soooo stupid.

Look at your expectations.

Bridgewater has a couple nice preseason drives and you are all “Bridge is the best in the class, Minny will be laughing for years to Come!”

Foles goes 8-2 and sets records doing so and you are all, “Look the problems with Foles are same problems he had last year. We know what his lows look like and we know what his highs look like (against questionable competition).”

Bridgewater is already a guy who is giddifingly exciting according to you, while Foles only has some highs against questionable competition.

Funny, when Foles tore the preseason apart 2 years ago, I wonder if you were as giddy as you are about Bridgewater. Doubtful.

Yes in game 2 he came in earlier.

In game 1 he didn’t. Which is why I made the point of saying BOTH Bridge and Manziel has overall faced better comp than Bortles.

Borltes has yet to be blitzed or see anything more than the most vanilla of defenses – HENCE my caveat of he has looked good, but without seeing either with or playing against the ones I’ll chalk it up to “it’s pre-season.” for him and nothing else.

Paulman,
In the past I have respected posts that you have placed concerning the draft, Eagles and your knowledge of football. But recently you have me wondering about some of your posts.
Recently you put out a post concerning Marcus Smith stating that you thought he played pretty well against New England and that anyone that made a judgment about him after the 2nd preseason game didn’t know very much about football. Then you put a post ranking the top 10 worst 2014 rookie draft picks and now you have a post predicting the Benjamin is going to have 69 catches and 12 touchdowns…………..Can you explain your thinking

I am not very concerned about the 3rd QB Roster Spot for it’s a total crap shoot for a Player that most likely never sees the Field.
I thought Kinnie going into Camp would really stand out and move ahead of Barkley, but Barkley has outplayed him big-time and will be the 3rd String
I said all along that Sanchez would win the #2/Back-Up Position and have never stated that both Kinnie & Barkley would make the Roster for Eagles as no NFL Teams carry 4 QB’s.. Many Teams do not even carry 3 QBon their 53 Man Roster anymore either..

Marcus Smith played like 70 Snaps in which he has gassed the final 20-25 of them.. He played pretty well I though in the 1st Half with the 2nd Unit
by the 4th Quarter playing with a hodge-podge of players and being pooped out, he was laboring.. Most Rookies never Play 70 Snaps in any Game let alone the 2nd Pre-Season Game so all in all. I thought he played ok

My Top #10 list of 1st Round Picks that have Disappointed their Teams,Coach’s and Fans needed to have 10 Players on it and I went down the List and Selected 10 of the 32 Selections that have not gotten off to Strong Starts and we maybe struggling with adjustments, speed,Playbook, injuries or Maturity issues for Open Discussion.. It is by no means, any list that definite since there has only been 2 Pre-Season Games and 4 Weeks of Camp thus far… Some players progress quicker than others, some are asked to play and take on different responsibilities and assignments that what they did in College, Some Coach’s and Schemes just fit some players more naturally than others so a host of factors are all involved..
As in most Cases, the real results will be after this Season is over and we can all go back and see who contributed or not in their Rookie Season and whether their Draft Position was worthy by the Teams that Selected them..
For now, just a list for fun and discussion and besides, what else is there to talk about, but when I originally read posts about Smith being a bust,
I wanted to bring to everyone’s attention that there about many other Players that were selected in the 1st Round that haven’t set the world on fire yet either in the NFL…
Will Sammy Watkins or Khalil Mack make good NFL Players, yes they will, are they good right now and ready to make an immediate impact,
no they are not as 75% of all Draft Picks are not ready..

Khalil Mack looks just as overwhelmed so far….but no its Chip Kellys fault lol the stupidity behind some of these posts is laughable.

Rip them if Curry isnt seeing heavy playing time this year. Rip them if Boykin is limited on impact this year because of scheme and subsitituions.

Rip them if Curtis Marsh makes this team lol

But be realistic and stop the overeaching nonsense.

Ertz and Johnson have to make bigger impacts this year. Or Kelly deserves criticism.

Sproles needs to have an immediate impact. Or Kelly deserves criticism.

Marcus Smith just needs to contribute at some point this year. If the 26th pick in the draft had to be an impact immediate player….your team sucks.

The defense does suck, & has sucked for years now! Yes, your 1st round pick has to be an impact player. Wasting your 1st rounder on a reach, that shouldn’t have been drafted until the 2nd-3rd round, is a mistake, especially with better players still on board, at position needs at Safety, CB, & WR. That’s what winning teams, with real talent evaluators do. Pick players that help you immediately & contribute. Look at the Birds 1st rounders over the last 10-15 years, especially since the glorified accountant Weaselman took over. Don’t give me the BS that Reid was picking either! Weaselman has ran the last 4-5 drafts & was solely responsible for the “Dream team”. All reaches, projects, busts & stiffs. Mostly all of which, were mistakes at the time. Again showing your ignorance, lack of knowledge, & low IQ.

Teddy Bridgewater has struggled all preseason. The gap between him and Cassell is wide and he will be on the bench just like Manziel.

I could only imagine if Bridgewater was in Philly by these hypocritical post on rookie status he would already be considered a bust. Hes been an interception fest in practice in Minnesota.

Bortles looks shoulders above the Qbs drafted this year. This may turn out to be a dud year in Qbs like last year.

Really? ‘Cause that Minn/Arizona game suggests otherwise. Even the first game kid was the beneficiary of several dropped passes/penalties negating positive plays.

He will likely start on the bench, but not b/c Cassel is the better QB.

” Hes been an interception fest in practice in Minnesota. ”

Not during game time he hasn’t. Oh you’re talking about practice. O.K.

“Bortles looks shoulders above the Qbs drafted this year.”

Yeah. Bortles has yet to play with the ones and has only been blitzed once in his pre-season debut (though for the most part he looks to have good ball placement). Compare that to Manziel and Bridge and there’s no comparison.

Bortles has had a nice Start I think, yes he hasn’t played with the #1’s yet but he looks pretty good in the pocket, game doesn’t look too fast or big for him and he does have a NFL Arm… They will bring him along slowly and he will get on the field around Week #10 for the Jaguars

Bridgewater has struggled. Its documented and written. He had a nice drive against 3/4s. So did Colt McCoy.

Rookies are supposed to struggle. He will be on the bench because right now he isn’t better than Cassel and doesn’t give the team a chance to win. No more no less.

Bridgewater and Manziel have looked average at best. Please stop. Add to that have both been underwhelming in practice protecting anything from either riiiiiiiiiiight now is a stretch. Is the Vikings are winning with Cassel Bridgewater won’t see the field barring injury or garbage time. The Vikings have Jennings and Patterson at Wr good TE play and we don’t even have to name the RB. If they are going with Cassel its because Bridgewater has not shown enough. Until a QB gets a few starts in the regular season, you don’t know how good or bad he is going to be. At least that’s what I have seen over the years.

There’s a lot of guys like Brandon Weeden, Blaine Gabbert, Christian Ponder, Tim Tebow, Josh Freeman… and the list goes on….

There’s not too many Russell Wilson’s….

Too often when people say a QB looks good or bad they talk about stat lines.

I’m not.

It’s like so many on here says how good Foles looked in the Patriots game…and all I could think was his stat line looked good – but he didn’t.

Bridge looked anything but average getting blitzed to death in the Cardinals game. Yes against 3s and 4s but he was throwing to and playing with 3s and 4s himself.

Bortles has looked as well BUT at this point both Manziel and Bridge have been tested more than he has. Most QBs can look good with very little pressure – though Bortles has had pretty good ball placement thus far and that’s a plus.

It’s why folk see Sanchez and say he looks good – things like decision making, ball placement, foot work, resonate whether you’re playing with ones or twos.

So no, some of those guys you mentioned, never looked good..they just had good stat lines. And there’s a big difference.

lol.

Notice my comment had nothing to do with Foles.

I’m not even an RG3 fan but your small mind can’t stomach anyone saying anything about a QB you don’t like.

I said Sanchez looked good in pre-season. I’m hardly the first to say that. I suppose you’re going to tell me I’m wrong there too.

You’re still bitching about that Kaep experiment. And telling us how running QBs don’t win championships. Gotcha.

So no, some of those guys you mentioned, never looked good..they just had good stat lines. And there’s a big difference.

Well they must have looked good to those less knowledgeable than you… like the NFL GM’s that choose those QBs in the 1st round…

Someone with your talent could be a great addition to an NFL war room. Because a lot of 1st round picks get wasted on garbage like Vince Young, Brandon Weeden, Blaine Gabbert, Christian Ponder, Tim Tebow, and JaMarcus Russell. You could view the college tapes and see right through the stat lines….

She is welcome to have an opinion, and so am I….

All I know is that I said – “Until a QB gets a few starts in the regular season, you don’t know how good or bad he is going to be.”

And TS said – “So no, some of those guys you mentioned, never looked good..they just had good stat lines. And there’s a big difference.”

I just pointed out that some NFL GM must have thought they were good to pick them in the 1st round….. Am I wrong? Too bad the GMs are not as laser focused on talent as TS claims to be.

I know on thing, it’s a surprise to me when a guy like JaMarcus Russell fails and a guy like Tom Brady becomes a star. I’m not ashamed to admit that I can’t pick the next super star by watching them in college or in a couple pre-season games.

Biggy I get that same feeling reading some of the back and forth on here. No doubt that Sherel (sorry if I am spelling it wrong, I suck at spelling) had displayed her over the top adoration for MV, but she has also shown that she has a good knowledge of the game and the players. I think that way too often on here the responses are based more on the person who wrote it rather then on the actual comment. I know that I tend to do that with crazy Songs, rarely ever read the stupid sh*t he posts, just keep seeing him as a turncoat and troll…..so I am just a guilty as some of the others with TS.

Because he has had 3/4 of a good season that’s why… There have been plenty of QBs that have showed flashes, won some games and turned out to terrible. Many get mentioned on this blog as guys that should be sought after backups.
Questioning whether or not he’s the real deal is fair… But ignoring the success he has had and belittling it by talking about competition or other phantom arguments.
Lion maybe you think I blindly support the coach, I don’t… I simply don’t spend enough time watching the Tampa bay v Jacksonville preseason game to truly make anything close to an informed comment. I figure these guys do it for 100 hours a week, with access to real information and not relying on media reports and are held accountable by their bosses.i guess I just like to watch my teams play.

I think Nick Foles will be a QB that can last, I find amusing that analysts act like 27/2 is done on a regular basis I will shout this out if you go 27/2 against division 3 competition that means something. He did it against NFL competition so where does the wait and see crap come from ? This ain’t Dom Brown. Last thing is this if he fails will it be his fault or teams catching up to Kelly’s system? If McCoy doesn’t rush for 1500 yards will it be his fault or because there is no deep threat?

“Look the problems with Foles are same problems he had last year. ”

“We know what his lows look like and we know what his highs look like (against questionable competition).”

“Foles is an okay QB who can do well with a stacked team around him and a solid running game. And there’s nothing wrong with that.”
(but clearly nothing good either…)

“Foles can fuck around and throw some lame ducks if he wants to….”

But hey….stick with your “I don’t even mention Foles….” lies if you want…”just be prepared to be called son them.

You hate Foles….just admit it….just admit it …you’ll feel better about yourself.

And look. I don’t care that you hate him because he took your hero away…..but I will point out that you are wrong.

As far as what to watch for in this game – the zebras. How are they throwing those flags. While some call it the LOB rule, it seems more like an Ealges rule with the way the Ealges were getting with those penalties last couple of games (also hands to the face and I beleive some oline holds as well) – it will be good to see if the Ealges have adjusted to the new emphasis or if the new emphasis is emphasized less.

5-6 Players to Watch on Offense

1) QB Nick Foles – I would like to see better footwork, quicker decisions,
and more decisive throws and clean exchanges with the RB’s.. Square the Shoulders & Hips up and use those Legs when Passing
2) RT Alan Barbee has his best week of Practice per OL Coach and OC Shurmur.. Let’s see how he does 1 on 1 versus an active 3-4 Scheme
3) WR Cooper & Maclin – See how they look in their First Action, which I expect them both to be a tad rusty, but are they getting open, running clean routes and not afraid of the “live Action” and Hits that will be coming their way
4) WR Jordan Mattews – Can he continue to build on a strong game last week and develop the consistency and nice runs after the catch…
5) RB Josey – Can he win a spot, be that 4th RB/Scat Back/maybe Returner and the eventual Replacement for Sproles in 1-2 Years time .. I think he can be.

5-6 Positions & Players to Watch on Defense

1) DT’s Logan and Allen — Can they get off blocks, Penetrate and make plays
2) DE’s – Who is going to supply a Pass Rush besides V Curry and Brandon Graham…
3) CB’s – Can the Eagles Top 3-4 CB’s cover without all the Penalties, then can they tackle, force turnovers and play Physical Football
4) OLB’s – Want to see more from Cole,Barwin,Smith, Long and Braman
5) Safeties – Who behind Allen & Jenkins is in the mix, Wolffe,Maragos or Reynolds..

Return Teams – Who will handle the Return Duties with Josh Huff probably out for the Season (I heard he will have Shoulder Surgery)

Kicking Duties – Who can kick the ball into the End-Zone Consistently

I don’t see anyone trading for Casey, especially for the 4mil per season on his contract. Why was he brought here in the first place?
My focus is on the defense as it always is. Will Davis send out a 4 man front more often on passing downs? Will the defense be able to get off the field on 3rd downs?
As far as Graham, I don’t see how you trade one of the players that gets consistent pressure on the QB, when given the opportunity, when pass rush is one of your biggest weaknesses.

Two bad passes to start the game one good one to cooper missed maclin missed Mathews first down drop to cooper was high and away still should have been caught.

Nolan Carol sighting good D better throw by Big Ben, Jenkins big hit no wrap on Bell. Dumb penalty by Ryans aim lower. Finally off the field on 3rd down

Foles keeper up the middle?! nice reverse field by shady. Nice quick decision by Foles on 3rd and 5, nice seem pass to Celek off the fake Celek Helmet pops off as it always does lol, Barbe beat again smh, Sproles drop wouldn’t have been a first down anyway but the refs save the day, Foles stands and throws under pressure great job even tho it wasn’t caught, Foles Misses Celek wide open smh, great screen play design for shady double screen a chip Kelly score

Good blitz up the middle close to an INT, bullshit illegal contact I guess you can’t touch the wr at all ref have to use discretion, D making good initial contact we have to wrap up, Fletcher misses an INT chance on a bad throw by Ben, another 3rd down stop wow,

Good quick pass by Foles, no room for Sproles, Great pass by Foles to Cooper in tight coverage Cooper hard to reach around, few good runs by Matt Tucker, great 3rd and short conversion with the run good to see, good catch by celek but why does he always get crushed?, foles just missed Cooper but had Mathews break open bad PI call against Coop. I have been (as always) very consistent.

PS is Mostly irrelevant, save the first half of game 3 which matters because it is the only semblance of a real game.

Some negatives….Foles not putting his mouth guard in….something I used to rip Vick for (because he always forgot).

Hopefully he’ll fix that next possession.

I think Celek has a concussion.
Read that McCoy got X-rays on his thumb.

Kendricks is everywhere.

What does Eagles will be fine…mean? Eagles make the playoffs? Eagles end with 8-8 record? Some fines want a little more than just “fine”…
But its great that you take that all from watching last nights game…because in your opinion “its the closest to a real game”….Pitt may have been the weakest competition we’ve played in the preseason thus far. I need to see what happens when defenses start cranking up the blitzes, game planning, and offenses really try to test the secondary. The fact that you are highlighting what Cooper did, is laughable…Cooper don’t matter..

But I will thank Dick Lebeau for not blitzing like he usually does so we can get in rhythm.

he looks ok not bad not great but ok which is fine because the bigger point is receivers that he missed were actually open and he will hit more than he misses. Just glad receivers are getting open.

One thing is for sure Nolan Carroll being inserted in the lineup has locked down his side of the field. Ben cant find no one his way. He definetly needs to start that’s why fletcer is getting a lot of work

Ok let me great this straight

1. Foles sucks bc Pitt isn’t blitzing every single play.
2. Th eagles defense sucks bc Pitt is playing their 1st team offense
3. Maclin is tissue paper bc he scared himself when his knee buckled BUT he came right back in so he must be fragile.

Hows that analysis haters?

4. Fletcher Cox is the worst DL ever!!!! Is only holding up blockers and making tackles.

Good pass to Ertz then Maclin twice, Foles getting a rhythm, good pass to Cooper dropped Illegal contact once again, good swing pass to Maclin score chip doesn’t challenge prob for reps great play considering pitt was way off sides, sproles score

Nice open field tackle by kendricks, tight window throw by Ben good D but make the tackle, illegal contact again smh, football being ruined, Nolan carol great hustle for the int on a bad pass,

good pass to Ertz, maclin goes down untouched, sproles trips on screen pressure on Foles throws a blind pass int bc Troy is a HOF not many make that play

Kendricks with another monster tackle, great plat by Malcolm Jenkins, its been quiet on the back end Jenkins playing well deep.

Maclin back out making a catch good to see he was just scarred for himself, throw away series matt Tucker couldn’t convert short yardage

Cox in the spotlight good run D, pitt trying ground and pound, Barwin doing what he does knock down passes

Mathews sighting screen pass trying to get him involved good gain, Sproles loose for a few great blocking, Maclin getting comfy, Cooper hard to tackle on short screen, Foles just missed the short Sproles, flat pass to Mathews for nothing, would like to see him catch something down field,

Graham can really pass rush a shame he can never get a feel lol

You forgot to add….

Foles threw an int and it had nothing to do with Sproles falling down….

And

Foles threw an incompletion and it had nothing to do with Cooper running the wrong route that the two of them joked about afterward.

Eagles looked solid this half. Sky isn’t falling, and that’s upsetting to a lot of people in here.

No the problem is with fans in here is when the Eagles play bad no one can criticize them like a few of you invented the rules. So if Foles sucks we will say he fucking sucked that game it doesn’t mean we hate him or any other player not playing well. When they play well I will say they played well. This idea that fans cant say anything negative aint happening. Saying all that the offense, defense and ST played well tonight and were impressive.

So when I come to the table its coming from many sources from people actually around the team, beat writers, etc.So like I said we all have our opinions. Its not like Im in the locker room or around team its what others report so I will keep listening to them until you get a press pass then I will listen to you.

Criticism is not the issue. Legitimate criticism is.

No one here is going to bat an eyelash if you bring up the kicker, 3rd down d, pass rush, Smith, the back end, the RT replacement etc.

But……

Start telling me (us) about how much better the Redskins QB is? How terrible Foles is? That’s going to produce some negative responses…

Positive news. Sanchez playing vs Steelers 1st team defense to. So I guess we cant say he played vs backups. He looks good. I guess the he is playing backups argument aint working this week. lol. Good QB situation. Is it wrong to praise Sanchez(another Eagles player) or is that tabu?

Is it just me, or do the Steelers suck? Our 2nd team offense moved the ball with ease against their #1’s.

Good 3rd game for the Birds. Many positives to build on. A couple tough decisions for the coaching staff. Tucker looked good, Travis Long too. I thought Smith II played better.
