A Look At The Final Roster Battles

joseyRunning Back

Candidates: Chris Polk, Matthew Tucker, Henry Josey, Kenjon Barner

I think the Eagles are going to keep four running backs. LeSean McCoy and Darren Sproles are obvious locks, but the two positions behind them are up for grabs.

Chris Polk entered camp with a leg up on everyone else, but a hamstring tear has kept him out of action so far. In his absence, guys like Matthew Tucker and Henry Josey have taken advantage of the extra playing time afforded to them. Even if Polk plays on Thursday, I don’t think he can do enough to close the gap between himself and the other runners. The fact is that even though Polk is a very productive player when healthy, he’s a guy that has been battling the injury bug throughout his career.

Tucker seems to have the inside track on the third-string job. He’s developed very nicely since joining the team in Training Camp last summer, and he’s a guy that has more experience with the system. He runs hard, and has shown that he can be a capable goalline, short-yardage back.

The fourth spot is going to come down to either Josey or Barner.

If its a fair fight, Josey has got to be the guy that sticks. He’s shown tremendous explosiveness as both a runner and a receiver, and also seems to have good vision and patience when moving with the ball. Anytime he’s had his number called during this preseason, he’s produced.

If Barner makes it, its because of the Oregon connection. He looked good in a few of the plays the Eagles ran for him the other night, but I don’t think he has the body of work to justify staying over Josey.

Wide Receiver

Candidates: Arrelious Benn, Jeff Maehl, Damaris Johnson, Ifeanyi Momah

I think the Eagles are going to carry six receivers this year. Jeremy Maclin, Riley Cooper, Jordan Matthews, Josh Huff, and Brad Smith seem like locks to make it, leaving one position left.

I think Arrelious Benn has to be the guy that gets the nod here. Benn has shown an ability to contribute on special teams, and still has some good raw talent to work with as a receiver.

The only thing Jeff Maehl has ever had going for him is the Oregon connection. He’s a fringe guy with nothing spectacular or unique in his game.

Damaris Johnson is the guy most likely to give Benn a run for his money. Johnson has always had some explosive talent, and he’s had some success as a return man in the past. However, between Josh Huff and Darren Sproles, the Eagles aren’t in dire need of an additional return specialist. Johnson has also had a habit in his career of making some pretty careless mental mistakes that have led to turnovers, which could ultimately be his undoing.

Momah is a tall guy with speed who sounds great in theory, but just doesn’t put it all together on the field. He’s progressed from where he was a year ago, but he didn’t do anything special in his time running with the first team during the preseason.

Defensive Line

Candidates: Brandon Bair, Taylor Hart, Damion Square

Cedric Thornton, Fletcher Cox, Bennie Logan, Vinny Curry, and Beau Allen look like locks to make it at this point.

Brandon Bair has quietly had a very good preseason, and deserves some roster consideration. However, I don’t think he makes out over Oregon product Taylor Hart, a guy that Kelly actually wanted to take as high as the third round of this year’s draft.

Damion Square hasn’t been impressive, and is likely to lose his job to Beau Allen.

Linebacker

Candidates: Casey Matthews, Emmanuel Acho, Bryan Braman, Najee Goode, Travis Long

Its finally time to say good-bye to Casey Matthews! There’s absolutely no justification for him to be on the roster for another year.

Najee Goode and Bryan Braman are quality special teams guys, and I think they stick around for that purpose. Acho is a guy they like enough to bring in to camp, but not a guy they like enough to make a roster spot for, regardless of how he plays.

Travis Long has had some nice moments two last two years in the preseason, but ultimately he loses his roster spot to Brandon Graham.

Cornerback

Candidates: Jaylen Watkins, Roc Carmichael, Curtis Marsh

Not really much of a competition here. Watkins is a talented guy with by far the highest ceiling of the three, and he’ll be the fifth corner this year.

Its unlikely the Eagles keep six corners, but if they did, I’d favor Carmichael over Marsh any day.

Safeties

Candidates: Ed Reynolds, Chris Maragos

Will the Eagles keep more than four safeties?

If they don’t, Reynolds is a guy destined for the practice squad.

Maragos has a leg up on him either way for special teams.

How many QB’s, TE’s and OL do they keep
Denny.. I am not sure if they keep 3 QB’s
3 TE’s & 10 OL & 4 RB’s that they can keep
6 WR’s… Maybe they go with 9 OL or only 2 QB’s
But the numbers don’t add up

Sanchez signed a 2 Year Deal I believe…
I see them keeping 3 QB’s, 4 RB’s & 5 WR’s (Maclin,Cooper,Matthews,
Benn & a Waiver Wire Pick-Up). Josh Huff to Start out on IR
When Huff Returns, another release which probably Benn
At OL, I not sure what list Lane Johnson goes on (pup/suspended list)
So they will carry 9 other OL and then will release someone when Lane is Activated…

On Defense I think you have to have
10 DB’s (5 CB & 5 Safeties)
Malcom Jenkins can play some CB in an emergency
And Watkins could pkay a little Safety in an emergency)

In the end, I would like the Eagles to add a WR & CB
Off the Waiver Wire..Teams like the Packers,Broncos,
Bears,Redskins are loaded at WR and will have to cut so be productive Players at WR
Teams with quality CB Depth are the Seahawks,Pats,
Ravens,Panthers, Cardinals & Browns & Jaguars from what i’ve seen this Preseason who will have to release some..

That kid can’t catch a break, it’s the same knee that he suffered the ACL tear in last year. Chip said that no one is off limits for the right price. I think it would be a hefty price for Sanchez by way of draft picks. That would most likely give pause to the Rams and make them explore alternative avenues to replace Bradford with another veteran QB of their liking.

Why would they trade for Sanchez? For mediocre wins? They will have a terrible record going into a draft with both Winston and Hundley more than likely coming out.

They will play their hand out.

A Couple of Eagles Players who are hurt worse than Eagles are
Reporting…

1) WR J Maclin – Knee (Rest for now, limited Practice)
2) WR J Huff – Shoulder (Possible Surgery and IR List)
3) LB B Braman – Back (Spasms and maybe a Medical Release)

Eagles must add a WR

Just get me a fucking Kicker :D. Rest wont make or break for the most part. Keep my starters healthy for Opening day and lets do this. I am tempted to say trade Sanchez for a player, but they would get a pick for next year. I would rather have Sanchez backing up this year then a 3rd rounder next season. I couldn’t help but read the last thread and see all the same people making excuse threatening and dising each other. I didn’t miss a thing lol.

Rams are going with Veteran QB Shaun Hill (37 Years old)
I do see them making a trade for a myosin get QB they can groom for the Future for they have to move on from Bradford who is Due to Make $17 Million
Next Season as well..
They may talk to Patriots about Ryan Mallet who is in final Season
Of Rookie Deal, give him a shot and if he stinks, they a Draft a QB next Year
If he plays well, then they resign him .
I could see them checking in on Chris Ponder,Kirk Cousins but are not about to give up much ..

Who in their right mind would trade for Sanchez? He has looked good in pre-season against 2nd and 3rd stringers….and don’t give me the Pittsburgh game, they are horrible on defense…..he is what he is, a career back-up!
They would be lucky to get a 6th round pick in return for him. Keep him as our #2 and look to trade other pieces next off-season for picks.

Sijnce Chip has made damn near ever 18 year old QB a star right out of high school and has developed Foles in his system and seems to have made Sanchez a good QB trade Foles and resign 27 year old Sanchez for a #1 and one of them stud d-lineman.. Then resign Sanchez and save about 60 million. You then have one of them dlineman a #1 pick and 60 million to sign more defensive help. Problem solved. lol

On the other hand it would be stupid not to trade Sanchez if the Rams are willing to give up something good. After his stellar preseason and if he would play well a few games this year there is noway he is coming back next year to be a backup He is on a one year deal and as usual there will be 4-5 starting QB jobs available that he will try for. Why would he resign here unless he was given a shot at starting. Now if the Eagles think they can beat Seattle, NO, Arizona and GB to get to the SB this year then you keep him. But if they think they are a year or two away from competing for one than why wouldn’t you trade him and roll the dice.

There is no reason for the Rams to trade for a QB. They would have gotten a better backup if they really thought they could contend. They were all in on Bradford to see if his play would justify an extension into next year. They can now walk away from him scott free going into a year with the better QBs than were available the last two years.

Winston vs Hundley sweepstakes have begun.

And for a kid that supposedly has a strong christian base around him he gets himself into a ton of dumb shit.

And top it off I said IMO. Or is that not clear enough for you.

I did see a kid who has the spotlight on him, just skated around a rape allegation hens going to pay half of his rookie contract to in litigation or settlement in a civil suit, get caught stealing crab legs like a fucking idiot. Lol but you right we need more facts lol gtfoh

TE Wright will make an immediate impact in the passing game and with Gronk’s Injuries, etc, they need a pass catching TE or Brady becomes limited with this 5-8 Yard dink and dunk passes to his Slot Receivers and RB’s… Their Offense is build for the TE’s to make the big receptions down the seams … (just like the Eagles Passing Attack has become if you watch closely…)
