Plenty Of Promise Remains For The Eagles, Despite Loss In Arizona

RileyCooper&ChipKelly1

The Eagles should have won that football game against the Cardinals, but they were unable to do so.  The reality of what we witnessed, the turnover issues by our quarterback, the vulnerability by the defensive secondary, there are flaws with our football team.  The Eagles are not the only team with looming question marks, other playoff hopeful teams also have obvious issues.   If you were to look at just wins and losses and the playoff seeding; there are nine teams that are really contending for the six playoff spots.

1.Arizona  6-1

2.Detroit  6-2

3.Dallas  6-2

4.Carolina  3-4-1

5.Philadelphia  5-2

6.Green Bay  5-3

7.San Francisco  4-3

8.Seattle  4-3

9.New Orleans  3-4

Looking at how the rest of the season plays out, I see the Panthers, 49ers and Cowboys all missing the playoffs.  The Cowboys have a quarterback who may not even make it to the November/December months where he collapses; his back may prevent this disaster from even happening.  The Panthers are leading a miserable NFC South, but the performance of the Saints from Sunday night has me convinced that they will ultimately win their division.  The 49ers will improve defensively as the season goes on with the return of some of their playmakers, but I trust Wilson a lot more than Kap, so I give the Seahawks the last wildcard spot.

The Eagles lost to both the 49ers and Cardinals and will see Green Bay, Carolina, Seattle and Dallas twice before the season ends.

There isn’t a team in the NFC that I feel has shown enough to be considered a Super Bowl favorite after eight weeks of the 2014 season.

The NFC East is still going to be won by the Eagles, but whether or not they get a first round bye will come down to figuring out a way to win football games that are right there for the taking.  Not being able to execute in short yardage situations, giving the opposing offense more opportunities with costly turnovers and surrendering big plays on defense will not allow the Eagles to make the playoff run that many feel they are capable of.

Things can change quickly, a win in Houston and some help by the Arizona Cardinals in Dallas this week, and the Eagles will be in fantastic shape at the midway part of the season.

Reports here in Dallas out of Valley Ranch is that Romo will miss some time due to his injury. I think Romo is pretty much done for the season or will be in the near future. Teams will eventually stop Murray and force Romo to throw more and he will take a pounding. Anyone noticed that Bryant struggled with man to man coverage that the Skins played? We will be licking our chops when we play the Cowboys with or without Romo.

When did we suddenly get corners that can play man-to-man coverage?

Do the Skins bring back RGIII this week? Do you really start him on the road against an occasionally feisty Minny team that likes to sack the Qb…

Or do you keep him out one more week and ease him back against the bottom feeding Bucs at home?

that looks like 2 easy wins for the skins to get them back in the playoff race i think u gotta start mccoy one more week rg3 was still limping at the cowboys game

They bring him back this week. Can you imagine if they let McCoy win another game and then RGIII comes back and falls flat on his face? More then anything they want to avoid a QB controversy, they will play Griffin this week hoping that he plays well.

Guess you didn’t see the tape of him at practice. He is healthy and looks to be running and cutting well.

He has been cleared physically and listed as a full participant for practice by the Skins. Why would it be so dumb to play him, if he is your #1 qb?

Why would you care if it would hurt the Skins?

They are a dysfunctional organization…much like when Jerry Jones went down on the field in the 4th qtr of the Skins/Cowgirls game…if it is controversy or bad play, if it keeps the Skins in the basement I am all for it. I know that Songs is a Skins fan, but why would you care?

This Houston game is big – not a “must” win as its against the AFC, but certainly a “should” win. Can’t pass those up.

Very important to take down Houston and Carolina before heading to GB for a probably loss.

Good teams dont lose back to back games IMO. If the Eagles are truly about something(I actually think being in close games that they have pulled out this year will help them down the stretch) they got out of Houston healthy and with a W. They will roll over the Panthers. Green Bay is going to be tough but I actually think it will be reminiscent of the Cards game.

Eagles season is that stretch of Cowboys Seahawks Cowboys. Come out 2-1 in that stretch and they win the division.

Shady McCoy has one rushing td this season. It is not like he isn’t getting red zone carries either. Foles is being set up to a hero and twice he failed ( 49ers and AZ) The TV networks love the two minute drive and those QBs that thrive in that situation.

that eagle game was brutal to watch, even the announcer was bored ( tiki barber) — the refs sucked the entertainment value right out of that contest. Tiki said in the first half that these teams don’t look like playoff teams. So many stoppages and conferences with refs and replay (ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz)

On a baseball note why oh why wasn’t Drew Gordon running hard out of the box. People get on Jroll not running hard during spring training, this was bottom of the 9th in game 7 of the World Series in a one run game. Ridiculous.

Lion i couldn’t agree more. And he was kind of laughing it off in the comments I read! man thats a situation where even a routine hit if the guy bobbles it you get an extra base, if he totally butchers it and you are hauling ass who knows what happens! you put pressure on the outfielder getting the ball back in, you put pressure on the relay catch and throw….

What makes it even more ridiculous is Gordon can run, that’s a play where it should’ve been up to the 3rd base coach to send him or hold him. He barely was around 2nd on the second bobble.

Congrats to the SF GIants for Winning their 3rd WS Championship in the last 5 Years.. Another Great Job by their Manager Bruce Bochy and GM Brian Saebean on putting together a True Team 25 Player Roster that play hard, smart and never give up.. Kind of like the Phils 2006-2009 Squads that battled to the end and played hard for 27 Outs..
A fine line for sure between a mediocre and great Team in Sports, biggest asset is that Giants have a very Knowledgeable and active GM in Saebean and a Manager that utilizes his entire Roster and has confidence in his Players and lets them Play.. Hopefully the Phils can learn from the Giants methods of how to put a true “Team” together ..

paul you are selling the 10, 11 phils short there as usual. I like the giants and the results speak for themself, i was however routing for the royals as their farm team is in wilmington and i’ve seen a bunch of those guys as minor leaguers.

I was rooting for the Royals as well.. I like to see Teams?Cities that haven’t Won it in a while, to Win..
I am only selling the ‘.10 & ’11 Teams Short or their lack of Heart & Passion that they displayed in those Previous Years of 05 to ’09 back when the Players were a little younger and hungrier.. Once the Main Core all had their Big, Long-Term Contracts, they slipped each and every Year plus Charlie was never that great at Utilizing an entire 25 Man Roster.. He was a Plug & Play Manager where he was throwing out the same 8 Position Line-up almost every game (outside of Injury) and live or die with the same lineup and rarely got contributions from Bench/Role Players, but that was Manuels Philosophy

that is silly– no passion, i don’t buy that… you don’t sleep walk to 102 wins and division titles.
as for charlie you forget that each year he utilized key bench players to play important roles, remember eric bruntlett for example.

And what year was Bruntlett Playing? , Charlie did very little to utilize and maximize his Bench/Role Players over last 3-4 Years he manage .. The “Core” which I would include Manager Manuel became that old collective adage… “Fat,Dumb & Happy”
and the Fans, Local Media were so happy with the 2008 WS Win, that the Team, It’s Players and Front Office got a “Free-Pass” for the next 5 Years…

so you are saying they slept walked thru 10,11?? thats just stupid… there are no free passes — it is the evolution of sport– and every year it seems the “best’ most talented teams don’t necessarily win– i wrote this before but Greg Popovich (who knows more about team building, winning and losing etc than all of us put together )was asked why the spurs never repeated and he said because in a series it comes down to breaks, calls, injuries and the luck of the bounce–its not always the most talented teams that win it..

Yes, not really in 2010 for they were still a very good Team, but 2011.2012,2013 had way too many the Core Players that were satisfied, too relaxed and comfortable with their Job Security and were going thru the motions…
For a Team that was paid and compensated for a long Championship and contending Run, it sure didn’t last that long did it… for the Phils have not even contended for a Playoff Spot in what, 3 Years now … Out with the Old, In with the New

paul you don’t win a 100 games by being fat and happy– even a guy that just throws shit against the wall like you knows that!
12, 13 were disasters not because of job security, they were disasters because they had the big piece hurt, halladay hurt, young guys didn’t pan out… its the cycle of sports-

All I know is the Phils have been Playing about .465 Ball since
Mid -October of 2011 — 233-268 with the same Fat,Dumb and Lazy Core and Front Office.. This is over their last 501 Ball Games…
More than a Cycle I would say, Just a Poor Job of Roster Management, Player Development and Good Solid Trades and or Free-Agent Signings…

Well the comment was about 11 but you are correct terrible ball but you are wrong to say fat and lazy… Paul you have thrown out a hundred trade and fa signings none would work. You do understand that 9 times out of ten trading a veteran for a prospect doesn’t work out… That is league wide.

I dont even know what to say about the phils it seems they wana keep these ols players hoping to catch lightning in a bottle but they are obviously done they better start rebuilding now and trade what u can hopefully trade hamels to cubs for some prospects since maddon just got hired and they want to be good fast but i dont see any plan with ruin tommorow at helm

Yup it’s the cycle… The whole thing and I’ve been saying it for years is Howard coming back from injury… He didn’t and once he didn’t it was like sticking your finger in a hole in the dyke…. You can’t lose that run producer and succeed it’s really simple.
