Thursday Night Football Pick

DrewBrees1New Orleans @ Carolina

How disappointing has the NFC South been this year?

The Saints were projected to be an elite team in the NFC, and the Panthers were supposed to be anchored by their defensive prowess. Neither has lived up to expectations.

Carolina has been a little better at the receiver position than some people thought, thanks to the emergence of Kelvin Benjamin, but the way their defense has just fallen from a top three unit a year ago to a group that just doesn’t do anything right is astonishing.

I think the Saints, fresh off of an uplifting win against Green Bay, put up some decent numbers against the struggling Panther defense.

Pick: New Orleans 30, Carolina 20

A Big Game tonight in my Opinion with the Winner not only the likely
Winner of of NFC South but a very good possibility of the Eagles Opponent
in the 1st Round of the Playoffs at the Linc
I much rather see the Panthers Win tonight and the NFC South Division to help keep the Saints chances of making the Post-Season very small..

This is a tough game. If it was in New O, I’d be calling a wipe out. 30-10 Saints or something like that.

This one I am not sure….Saints coming off their big win against GB (Sunday night, then a Thursday game – are you kidding me?!?!?!?) VS a Carolina team coming off a very disappointing loss to Seattle.

The whole “team playing Sunday night then again Thursday” is completely unfair and points to Carolina, especially because they have to be desperate coming off 2 losses.

Carolina HAS to win. And they are at home.

But…..

They have Newton….. 29 of 53 for 376 1td 2 picks and 6 sacks over his last 2 big conference games. Is there any belief that he’ll suddenly become competent? Nope.

Still….Carolina has every advantage because of the stupid sched…..they should win……..

Agree with Paulman….super happy to host the Panthers in a playoff game. Easy-peasy.

On another note……

If the Birds did make the SB this year vs Denver…..would anyone actually be worried about the Broncos in that game????

I wouldn’t.

Well, so far exactly what I predicted. A completely discombobulated Saints team who hasn’t recovered from their Sunday night game (O penalties, 2 timeouts, turnovers, terrible Oline) vs the absolutely horrible Cam Newton. (Imagine the comments if Foles threw as poorly as this “superstar”)

But for goodness sake….listen to the love from the announcers…”what I like about Newton is….” “This is just natural talent” “He is hyped up this Cam Newton”….”he can make all the throws”….”

Never ending praise for 4 of 12 for 41 and a pick.

Again…just IMAGINE SongsKool, and TS in here is Foles played like this.

New Vegas odds:

Over under…time when we first see CaM Newton sulking with a towel on his head…..3:28 of 3rd Q.

Odds of TS’ next favorite player/QB now that she (clearly) has to abandon the horrendous Cam Newton
Wilson 3:2
Teddy Bridgewater 5:2
Return to Vick 3:1
RGIII 5:1
Krapernick 6:1
Geno Smith 25-1
EJ Manuel 50-1

Cam Newton is nowhere close to an Elite QB
In fact, he’s not even in the Top 15-20 in the NFL.
He just doesn’t have very good Vision,
He doesn’t see the entire field and locks in one to much on one Receiver and then throws bullets on passes that require some touch or an arch on the Ball
He us no better a QB in his 4th Season as he was as a Rookie
There is no way he deserves $17-$20 Million per Season

If Carolina were Smarter, they would let him walk,
There is some chatter that GM Gettleman & Owner Richardson
Are going to think long and hard on whether they offer a big contract
To him.. A lot will do on how he and the a team finishes.. He is simply not
A complete QB at his Stage and actually has regressed a bit this Season
I saw on at least a half-dozen occasions WR or Backs running wife open on
Drag routes or out in the flats and Cam never sees them but instead is trying to rifle it in to Benjamin between 2-3 Defenders.. He looked and threw like
A damn Rookie last night all game long..

Curse of the mobile qb having a great year based around his legs. Doesn’t get developed from the pockets teams then take away that option and from the pocket he’s inefficient and can’t make plays.

Lol and fools on here a couple months ago were saying he’s better than Luck….lmao I love the agenda dummies on this site.

Bluntly CaBluntlm has all the physical tools but he’s a mental midget. Never be an Elite NFL passer he got to far on his physical attributes. When they got rid of last year’s coordinator because the playbook was too complex than you had to worry about him.

Dave Shula has the been the OC the last couple of Seasons
At Carolina… Newton reminds me of a young Mike Vick in his Falcons
Days.. He’ll make a few fantastic Plays, usually with his legs, but misses easy
Reads, and is not consistent enough to lead 8-10-12 Play arrives before making
Poor decisions and throws .. They will be lucky to win 3-4 more Games and are not ready to play with the big boys or the bright lights

He’s exactly like Vick in his younger days.

He’s gonna get a Kapernick type offer. He wants Matt Ryan money.

They miss the playoffs there will be charter on him.

The team to watch is the 49ers if they missed the playoffs Harbaugh is gone. And Kapernick will be available….and the Eagles will be all over him IMO.

Harbaugh will leave on his own after this Season regardless to take over the Michigan Program.. I’ve stated this for 2 Years.. timing is now perfect
Most of his Staff (Vic Fangio/Brad Seely will follow, only OC G Romano will remain in the NFL) This Staff has been with him for 10 + Years since Harbaugh Coached at San Diego State, then Stanford and now SF 49ers and are very loyal to him and his Father who Coached at Michigan with Schembechler and the Harbaugh boys were mostly raised in Michigan..

Very Doubtful on that .. I believe Harbaugh and most of Staff follow him to Michigan while they promote OC Greg Romano as their new HC and they keep Kapernick and current Offense relatively the same
Remember, they have a new, shiny expensive Stadium to fill
Not a time to make wholesale Changes on a Team still very much in the Hunt for the next 2-3 Years

That’s why I’ve always been 50/50 on Foles. He really had to nail it in Chips offense like he did last year to overcome what he doesn’t offer. Chips not dumb he will continue to use Foles until he can’t. He’s not like most coaches who force their type of Qb even if they don’t have it.

I mostly agree with that….except….

He’s had 2 drafts and done nothing on the QB front (save Barlkey).

Seeing it takes 2 years for a QB to develop….doesn’t make sense to draft one going into the third season…

Birds put a rookie QB under centre next year and its back to 6-10

It pretty much guarantees nothing till at least year 5 of the regime……..that doesn’t make sense.

I never said that Brees was done, I did say he is in decline, which is accurate, but Brees at 85% still makes him a Top 10 QB in the NFL with all the mediocre QB’s there are
I did state that 2 Two Teams (49ers & Saints) would struggle this Season and then have, but I also give Credit where Credit is due and both Teams,COach’s and Players have rallied to get back in the hunt and I bet that both Teams finish up strong due to their strong Coaching and Character..
If Eagles beat the 49ers with that last minute drive, the 49ers were probably toast and in bad shape for the Season
If Aaron Rodgers had one of his typical great games and the Beat the Saints 2 weeks ago, who knows what would happen..
But both Teams have overcome the obstacles, injuries, slow starts and like I said, would not be surprised to see either the 49ers/Saints or both make Deep Runs in the Playoffs
You have to kick a Good Team down when you have the Chance…

what happened to Cam Newton yesterday?
interception and fumble turnover –
(10 for 28 for only 151 yards) in a blowout home loss.
I watched the Flyers/ Lightning NHL game and am looking at the box score stats today. Was it really that bad? were his receivers dropping passes or something?

He was off-target all night (throwing High passes)
They were a couple of Drops, but he was erratic, staring down Receivers and forcing the Ball on most of his passes.. He was terrible last night, though he did have a nice 10-12 Yard TD Run, but Passing, woo, it was ugly to watch

He and the Panther Team is not very good..
Their OL is a mess and especially at LG & LT where 1st Year NFL Players are playing due to injuries, No Legitimate Running Game) and not Legitimate Deep Threat to beat the Eagles Deep
This may be the Eagles easiest Game on their Schedule since Carolina’s Offense can’t score more than 13-17 Points a Game
and their Defense can’t get off the Field on 3rd Down

I thought PPF ranked Foles as the 27th ranked passer in accuracy out of 27 QBs? The worst team in the NFL in the redzone and Foles is on pace for 27 turnovers. Seems kind of silly for us to criticize any other teams QB dont you think? I dint think any team is trading for Foles at this point.

No doubt. But that isn;t the issue brought up is it?

The issue was/is that many posters on here this offseason were posting that Newton was better than Foles. He isn’t. Carolina management would trade for Foles right now…..they certainly want to get something, because I think they’re going to let him walk.

Now for all the “Foles sucks” arguments….lets look at this logically…..who would you take over him? Lets look at every single NFL team….

I’ll state whether the QB is a better fit for the Birds than Foles or not…and give a reason….I will take age into account…..

Dallas. Romo No. He is mid 30s with a wonky back, plus he sucks when it counts
Washington – RGIII/McCoy/Cousins. No. Are you kidding?
NYG – Manning II. No. He sucks and is 35.
Det – Stafford. Maybe. I guess. He’s below 60% (career) with int% higher…and that’s with Johnson
Chic. Cutler. No – No fucking way
Minny. Bridge. No. He’s a struggling rook.
GB. Rodgers. Of course.
NO. Brees. Of course…but Brees is 36
Carolina. Newton. No fucking way.
Atl. Ryan. No. Anyone here want him?
TB. Glennon. Maybe….I guess….I dunno…not excited about that switch
Ariz. Palmer. No. No fucking way
SF. Kap. No. His own team isn;t sold. Can;t hit the broad side of a barn.
Sea. Wilson. Ya….probably….but not as confidently as a year ago
Stl. Davis? No.
NE. Brady. Of course….but he’s 37….so it really makes no sense
Mia. Tannehill. Maybe. But you would never have said yes a year ago.
NYJ – Geno/Vick. No. No fucking way
Buff. No. No to whoever they have.
Cinci. Dalton. No
Balt. Flacco. Yes
Pitt. Roth. Maybe….but again…too old
Clev. Hoyer/Manz – No.
Indy. Luck. Of course.
Hou. FItz. No. No fucking way.
Tenny. I don’t even know who is at QB there. No
Jax. Bortles???? No.
Denver. Manning. Of course. But he’s 38.
SD. Rivers. Can’t believe I’m saying this….but yes.
KC. NO
Oak. No

So what do you have?

5 “of course” in Brady, Manning, Brees and Rodgers and Luck…..3 well into their 30s…and none available.

3 “yes” in Flacco, Wilson and Rivers…..but are you really that confident in 2 of them running the Birds?

1 “Maybe” in Stafford. He’s fat. And I guarantee he’ll fall flat again when it counts.

And then what? A whole crap-load of “Nos”. I’ll take Foles over every other QB except those above 9. That’s the fact Jack.

I don’t give a shit about PFF. I’ll take him over the rest of the list. You want to put Krapernick or Tannehill or one of the rooks into the mix…fine I’ll accept that..I guess…..

Rip Foles all you want….who exactly, that is available, would you take over him?

A rookie? Well then….enjoy the next winning season in 2 years…..at best.

IzzellJenkins
IzzellJenkins
November 1, 2014 12:27 am

It’s not about ripping Foles. But sorry Vinnie you can’t beat the drum for a guy who this year has been mediocre at best. The jury is still out on him. He’s got opportunity and a possible playoff shot ahead of him however this year up to this point he had been underwhelming and at times scares the entire fan base wondering is this the guy?

You can rip Kap but fact of the matter is he took his teams to two nfc championships games and a Superbowl. You take Wilson over Foles in a heartbeat.

Foles has promise we can win with him if he progressed and gets it together. However he has regressed mightily. We shouldn’t throw the towel in on him but he doesn’t deserve the keys to the car yet.

He’s on probation. We will judge him when or season ends. Your a 100% correct in that if Jelly goes elsewhere than Foles its a 2 or 3 year wait.

Hence the angst about Foles backfoot duck bombs.

However we are I’m agreement. I wouldn’t touch Can Newton with a 10foot pole.

I will say I would take Kap/Wilson over Foles.in this offense.

Andrew Luck would be INSANE in this offense.

Ok….so youadded 1 guy to my list. That’s 10 you’d take over Foles and 20 you wouldn;t.

ThFor all the “Foles sucks” calls out there….who is better….and of the QBs who are “better”…(we’re at 10) who is available? There might be 1 – Kapernick.

A draft pick? Enjoy a 50% chance he makes it to where Foles is….and it’ll take 2 seasons at least,

What a ridiculous and stupid ass argument…right now I would take the vast majority of those QB’s over Foles. Our offensive line despite the injuries have given up the least amount of sacks in the league. In Chip Kelly’s QB friendly system filled with easy reads almost all of those QB’s would do better than the fumbling, turnover prone Foles.
He leads the league in turnovers-vinniedafool!!
Here is a real assessment for which QB I would take right now over Foles and which ones I wouldn’t:

Dallas. Romo No-He is a proven choker…I wouldnt take him over anyone in the league
Washington – RGIII/McCoy/Cousins. Hell Yeah…RGIII with Chip would work wonders
NYG – Manning II. Hell Yeah Super Bowl Winner. Protect him with a solid O-Line and he is fine
Det – Stafford. Hell Yeah…Strong arm much better tools

Chic. Cutler. Yes! Stronger Arm and again…our Offensive line would protect him better.
Minny. Bridge. Yes! He is talented with more heart and mobility than Foles…
GB. Rodgers. Of course.
NO. Brees. Of course…
Carolina. Newton. Hell Yeah could run Chip’s offense very well!
Atl. Ryan. Yes…a stronger and more accurate arm
TB. Glennon. Yep
Ariz. Palmer. Hell Yeah…he outplayed Foles . Our defense put pressure on him but he didnt turn the ball over and threw a strike to win the game…Hell Yeah
SF. Kap. HELL Yeah…far more talent, much stronger arm…would be dangerous with Chip
Sea. Wilson. YES, YES Hell Yes!! He is much better than Foles
Stl. Davis? Its a wash
NE. Brady. Of course…
Mia. Tannehill. Yup
NYJ – Geno/Vick. Yes! Geno suffers from a bum ass, overrated coach…would be better with good coaching…Vick cant stay healthy or he would still have a job here in Philly…he beat Foles for the job already when they went head up…he’s a better QB that cant stay healthy
Buff. Yes
Cinci. Dalton. Yes
Balt. Flacco. Yes
Pitt. Roth. Hell Yeah
Clev. Hoyer/Manz – Yes
Indy. Luck. Of course.
Hou. FItz. Yes…he has better stats this year than Foles
Tenny. Locker -Foles about the same
Jax. Bortles Yes…much better upside
Denver. Manning. Of course.
SD. Rivers. Hell yeah.
KC.YES
Oak. Carr…Hell Yeah…much more talent with Foles and again would benefit from good coaching
Foles leads the league in turnovers with one of the best pass protecting offensive lines in the league….most QB’s would excel with this O-line

@Kool. I have just lost whatever faith I had in your ability to analyze after this list of who you would take over Foles. The bias is obvious. To imply Nick Foles is the second worst QB in the league is ridiculous. I agree he does make mistakes, but to say second worst is overboard by any stretch of the imagination.

Please stop with the Mike Vick “if” excuses. We had four years of it here. He only got us to the playoffs once and lost that game. His overall playoff record is 2-3. He’s not that good or he would have beat out Geno for the starting job in NY.

Dalton hasn’t proved himself in the playoffs. Cam Newton???? You must have missed Thursday’s game if you think Cam is better than Foles. Newton is one of the most overrated players in the league now. Cutler? Bortles? Carr? Fitzgerald? Seriously?

How is Foles unproven yet you would somehow take Bortles, Carr and Bridgewater over him?

Do you watch the National Football League or highlights from these guys’ college careers?

Very poor analysis.
